After splitting reps for most of the season, Parsons emerged as a starter late. Parsons finished the season with 69 tackles, which led the Nittany Lions, to go along with four tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble. Not bad for a player logging his first career season at linebacker.
Going into the season, I had no expectation of this.
Hamler was the best known quantity. I didn’t know he was this good.
Parsons was learning a new position.
Friermuth was a complete surprise, especially because he didn’t enroll early.
All great news. Not to be a buzz kill but we had a lot of positions of need that thrust many of our recruits into starting roles. Many teams didn't have that need.
Saying that, we will compete for a playoff berth in each of the next three years, at least.
