What is common practice where you live?

Just paid a $2,760.00 bill to have the master computer replaced in my wife's Lexus ( also a few minor repairs). I was in no mood to tip anyone quite frankly.

I have a local mechanic who I take my older car to and rather than tip him cash, I'll bring him a coffee and breakfast sandwich at least a couple times a month and we'll sit and eat together discussing how to fix the problems of the world.

Cool. That guy sees a more varied collection of people than you do, most likely.
