Pittsburgh Pirates 2021 Season Thread

oh no, listened on the radio how the Buccos lose in extra innings. Probably shouldn’t have bothered to look it up.
Hopefully tomorrow there will be much more sports joy around the 3:30-3:45 timeframe.

Interesting that they refer to it as a "dropped pop up" when he couldn't manage to even touch the ball.

The Buccos wish you a Happy Labor Day by Raising The Jolly Roger versus our hated rival from the Motor City!!!

Wilson solid off the mound until a hiccup during his final inning.

Hello Newman DOMINATES early play with a first inning 2 run home run followed by an outstanding Willie Mays imitating catch of a blooper!

Cole Tucker had a Great Hair day going 2 for 3, while Hayes put up a 3 for 4 day!! Yoshi Babe Ruth & Cat like Jacob Stallings also 2 hits each.

Pittsburgh's very own Renegade was awesome in the ninth to slam the door notching save number 3 as the Pirates win number 49!!!!!!

Fat Miggy had the day off today other than a sac fly rbi in the sixth for the Bumbling Bengals.

Bucco Fan Favorite Andrew McCutchen hit HR # 24 today improving his RBI total to 70.

Start time the next two nites is a half hour earlier 6:35 PM.

Peralta 3 - 3 (3.68 ) vs Peters 0 - 2 (3.07) tomorrow.

Let's Go Bucs!!

Ben Gamel is a Beast with 3 hits, 2 RBI and and awesome catch!!

Hayes 2 hits, Hello Newman 1, Reynolds 1.

Curly Cole Tucker continues to blow at the plate 0 for 2.

Story of the game was the Pirate bullpen which held off the Kitty Cats from MoTown. Chad Kuhl, Renegade David Bednar and Chris Stratton with Great stuff!!!

Raise The Jolly Roger as the Bucs walk of the Josh Bell Nats!!

Steven Brault got the start for Pittsburgh and was not sharp in two innings giving up two runs in two innings before exiting with arm soreness. Not good for Brault after missing much of the season do to core issues. Anthony Alford did not help Brault defensively by diving for a ball that got past him. A run scored on the play with the Nats catcher ending up with a triple.
Cole Tucker flexed his power with a bloop double, and eventually scored after a couple of sacrifices in the third.
A Josh Bell bomb to center saw the Nationals lead stretch to 3 - 1. Anthony Alford answered with a solo homer the other way to make up for his defensive gaffe to make it 3 - 2 after 7.

Other than the Bell home run the Buccos did not allow anything for 7 innings after the Brault exit.

In the ninth, Alford goes the other way for a hit after the Nats pitcher gets ahead in the count and fails to throw a high fastball or bury a curve which would normally see AA swinging at air. Gamel walked after a wild pitch moved Alford to second. Cole Tucker shows the moment is too big for him and pops up. The Nationals play the infield back.... a headscratcher to all....which allows a Moran ground out to score Alford to tie the game!!!
Ke'Bryan Hayes follows up with a hard ground ball inside the first base bag for a base hit to walk it off!!!

Hayes and Alford each had two hits. Hello Newman even had a hit to "raise" his average to .222.
Chad Kuhl picked up his 5th win vs 6 losses on his 29th birthday giving the Buccos 51 on the season!

Amazing. Schmindians no hit for the third time this season! More amazing? The tribe starter named zack plesac, who missed almost half the season with an injury, was the starter for all three of the Schmindians losses.

Wow. Crazy.

Raise The Jolly Roger again as the Buccos earn another chance to sweep a series for the first time this year!!

Reynolds and Gamel hit home runs to bring the Pirates back from a 5 - 2 deficit. This after Wil Russell Crowe looked like Cy Young for 3 innings ....then melted down.

Low moment of the game was Kyle Keller drilling the Nats catcher Keibrt Ruiz in the right temple with a 97 mph fast ball. Thankfully, xrays were negative.

Washington pitching melted down shortly afterward giving the Pirates a slew of walks which contributed to a mess of runs.

Board favorite son Kevin Hello Newman was 1 for 1 and a great sac bunt to raise his average to .224.
Reynolds and Moran had 2 hits each. Curly Cole Tucker was pathetic going 0 fer 5.

Get the Broom out tomorrow the Glov says!!!!!

The Bucs Raise The Jolly Roger and screw the Reds!!!!

Don't look now but the Pirates have won 5 of 7 games heading in tomorrow's Roberto Clemente game which will see all of the Pirates wear 21. Jacob Stallings was named the Pirates candidate for the annual MLB Clemente award and used the adrenaline from today's nomination to smack two base hits, while driving in 2 runs and scoring a run. Dillon Peters started for Pittsburgh and baffled the wild card contending Reds for 5 shutout innings. Nick Mears ran into some bad pitching luck in the 6th inning giving up 4 runs trimming a 6 - 0 Pirates lead to 6 - 4. From there the Pirates bullpen shut the door giving the Bucs their 53rd win of the season (closing in on the betting total for over/under wins for the season). Hayes and Babe Ruth Yoshi each had two hits. Board Favorite Hello Newman with a hit in three at bats and a solid bunt sacrifice to raise his average to .227.

Head scratching moment of the game was Yoshi Tsutsugo being picked off first base again. Why he is even taking any kind of lead off first is beyond me.

Pittsburgh had lost 9 of their previous 10 games vs. Cincinnati this season.

Bad news of the day was that David The Renegade Bednar has been put on the 10 day injured list with right side tightness.

Buccos win again, this time in 9th inning scoring from 2nd on a groundout. Broke a streak of 19 straight losses on a Wed (did not realize that).

Have a chance for a sweep tomorrow.

Man are you good. Make it sounds like the Prospects are a real team! Send your write ups to the PG and Trib and get a real job. Hell, maybe even work for the White House! You are the true Spin Meister. I yield my title!

Pirates harpoon Big Fish....drag carcass on board and Raise The Jolly Roger!!!!

A 2 - 1 victory that was like sleep walking all nite before the game turned into a thriller in the ninth!!

Stratton on the hill in the ninth gives up a lead off triple to Bryan De La Cruz of the Florida Chum and then proceeds to strike out the side for the Buccos 55th win of the season!!!!

Wil Russell Crowe was effective enough with off speed and junk in the dirt to keep the Florida Smelt off balance through 5 and actually got a win! Banda, Mears, Kuhl and Stratton kept the fish at bay from there.

Ke'Bryan Hayes was great in the field and pathetic at the dish. Curly Cole Tucker actually had a hit and sacrifice to make it appear he does belong on the bench .....maybe .....in the majors.

Most embarrassing moment of the game was in the first inning. Reynolds and Red Beard walked with Reynolds then scoring on a Stallings hard hit ball that went through the Minnows second baseman for an error. This left the Pirates with Moran and Stallings at second and first with two out....up 1 -0. Miraculously, Tucker then hits a soft single to center which means the Pirates should have the bases loaded with 2 out........BUT NO......Joey Fing Cora strikes again by sending Colin Moran home carrying a fully loaded refrigerator!!!! Moran is out by 20 feet and that is not exaggerating!!!! Not to mention his slide left him 5 feet short of home plate. WTF are we doing out there!!!!??

Other than that.......not much to report. Reynolds looked impressive as always with a bomb of a double and an awesome retrieval of a double and a rocket throw to second that might have been a put out until Hoy Chun Free Parking mucked up the catch and tag.

Bucs & Smelt will face off tomorrow at 6:10 with Wilson set to face Cabrera. If Pirates are lucky enough to win.....there won't be much of a report for obvious reasons.

I'm beginning to think the Bucs season win total will actually go to the over.......which is hard to believe.

Reynolds is looking like true big leaguer. In other words. He will be traded for cash and two prospects this winter!🤬

I didn't mind them getting rid of Glasnow even though his ceiling was incredibly high. It wasn't going to happen for him in Pittsburgh. Including Meadows and Baz is where it really went sideways for me.

The Pirates Pillage the Queen City and Raise The Jolly Roger for the 57th time to totally screw over the Reds!!!!!

Mitch Mystery Keller showed up and battled to give the Bucs a chance by going 5.2 innings while allowing 2 runs while not having his best stuff.

Pitching highlight of the night was Nick Mears loading the bases with no one out in the seventh and then pitching his way out of it allowing no runs!!! Along the way retiring Votto and Castellanos. Once again the Bucs bullpen was freaking stellar.

Hayes led the offense with a barrage of ground balls for three hits, while Ben Gamel homered for the 8th time and nailed the Reds pitcher at second after Mahle hit a ball off the wall with no one out in the third.

Keller with his 5th win vs 11 losses.

Yoshi Babe Ruth with a pinch hit double, while Cole Curly Tucker sucked at the plate.

Michael Perez had an awesome block of a ball in the dirt with a Red at third, while stroking 2 hits. Stallings has been placed on the DL with concussion symptoms.

Sadly, no Hello Newman tonite.

Tonight's win breaks a 13 game losing streak at Cincinnati for the Bucs.

Bucs with a chance to take the series with a Wednesday matinee at 12:35.

Sideways?
If the Mets or Yankees made the same trade, the dope who made it would be run out of town , banned from MLB, and have his ugly face plastered in the press.
In Pittsburgh, the press pretends it never happened, and the fans are like sheep.
Pirate fans deserve last place.

This trade was panned by most from the get go. Initially the press liked it because it showed the Pirates trying to do something to get over the top. When contending teams don't make a move they get blasted but when the team makes a move they get blasted.

Huntington had a habit of fixating on players. He loved Archer even after it was clear that he was fading. Drew Hutchison was another that he loved. Traded away Reese McGuire, Harold Ramirez and Liriano to Toronto. Terrible deal even though it was a partial dump of Liriano there was no reason to give up two guys along with him. Especially a 1st round catcher.

People like to hammer Nutting for being cheap but there are teams that are successful on the cheap. The difference is that they have the right people in place to make it work. Looking 2010-2019 the Mets have 793 wins and the Pirates have 792.

Glasnow has incredible talent, but when you look at his career, he's got a record of 20-20 at age 29 and will be coming off of Tommy John.

Austin Meadows is a nice player at age 26, but I can get over it. He's an outfielder and replaceable. Those two are where it should have stopped.

Shane Baz will be the best of them and was a stupid throw in to this trade.

I found this site that rates the umpires. It is pretty cool. here is the last red sox Yankees game:
