PIAA Sports for Fall 2020, Ongoing Discussion

No fall sports for the Philadelphia Catholic League. This also impacts Bishop Shanahan and Pope John Paul, which are Catholic high schools in Chester County that compete in local leagues as opposed to the PCL.

St Joe Prep and LaSalle are exploring the option of playing an independent schedule since neither are funded or operated by the archdiocese.

ARCHBALD, Pa. — All fall sports in the Valley View School District have been suspended until further notice.

In a post on its Facebook page, the district in Lackawanna County says several student-athletes came in direct contact with a student from another school who tested positive for coronavirus.

The district has contacted the State Health Department and is waiting for further guidance.

Looks like Eastern PA HS FB hanging on by a thread

The Philly Catholic League just postponed fall sports. The Central league and some Philly Public League have already done so, as well as a few other individual schools. Not looking good.

Disclaimer: Sorry if buried in another thread.

It is a damn shame that Philadelphia leagues are the only ones in Eastern PA, isn't it?

I don't feel bad for those St. Joe's kids heading to OSU, Clemson,.... Boo hoo.

Well the central league is in the burbs, and 3 PAC10 schools have already cancelled. Or do you still consider that Philly?
Well, last time I checked, Eastern PA includes a lot more area than Philadelphia and its suburbs.

What you really mean is that out of the 12 districts in the state, many schools in 2 districts (l & Xll) are opting not to play.

And District Xll joined the PIAA in 2003.

Maybe I should have said southeastern PA. Would that have made everyone feel better? So everyone's feelings wouldn't be so hurt. It really was just a football new announcement, not a condemnation of football in Tioga county.

Bucks County PA office says lets figure out how to move forward with sports/school

Heard this on KYW yesterday so looked up the article. If it's going to be here for a long time as Fauci and this guy both say, they #let them play and also let's get on with our lives in a safe manner.

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — The decision to go forward with fall sports or not is in the hands of individual school districts, following a ruling last week from the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association.

One day after the Philadelphia Catholic League bagged the fall season, Bucks County Health Director Dr. David Damsker says he thinks it’s safe to go forward.

Damsker says the COVID-19 numbers in the county are better than they’ve been since before July 4, and their message isn’t just go out and play, it’s go out and play safely.

“Every school district, I’ve seen the plans have a good health-and-safety plan that minimizes the risk of spreading that disease if there is indeed a person on that team (who tests positive)," he said.

Damsker says they’ve had positive cases on youth sports teams over the summer, but he says those cases not contracted from playing sports, and there are no cases that were spread from contact on teams.

“They’ve gotten it from their parents. They’ve gotten it from traveling to Florida. Or they’ve gotten it in other situation," Damsker said. "And that won’t stop. We’re always going to have a baseline of community spread.”

Damsker says the county will be supportive of whatever districts decide.

“There’s no reason for me to believe we won’t have cases in Bucks County every single day in the spring also. So we believe the situation as it stands is similar to what it could be six months to a year from now,” he said.

Based based on that, Damsker says, he believes it’s in everyone’s best interest to figure how to move forward with fall sports and in-person instruction and mitigate the risk as well as possible.

Not members of the PIAA, but the Inter-Ac League has postponed fall sports.

The EPC in the Lehigh Valley will play a 5 game schedule. Surprised Easton is not playing Parkland.

Central League includes schools such as Ridley, Strath Haven and Garnet Valley.

If I'm reading everything correctly, in the Philadelphia suburbs for fall sports we now have:

Central Leaguecanceled
Ches-Mont Leaguecanceled
Del Val Leaguecanceled
Friends School Leaguecanceled
Inter-Ac Leaguecanceled
Philadelphia Catholic Leaguecanceled
Catholic Academiespostponed until 10/12
Bicentennial Leaguepostponed until ??, but Bristol & Morrisville not playing
Pioneer Athletic Conferencepostponed until 9/7, but Norristown, Pottstown, and Pope John Paul II not playing, and Phoenixville only playing some sports
Suburban One Leaguepostponed until 8/31, but Cheltenham and Truman not playing

Looks about right Tom. I know there are many who don't like the privates in the PIAA, but St Joe Prep had a chance to be the best team in PA HS history.

After this is the perfect time to separate the publics and the privates.

Here's a nice breakdown of the PIAA schools/leagues opting out of football. 79 out of 86 from SE PA.

This makes no sense at all. BASD Stadium seats 15,000 and they will only allow 250? Dumb is getting dumber.
How about parents that were told by their school district 3 days ago that no fans would be present? IDGAF about BASD Stadium. Are you a parent of a student athlete?
