I applaud this, if ever the players had leverage to gain racial justice and appropriate compensation it’s now! The schools won’t make any money that they desperately need with the current players. After reading articles on racial injustice at Schools like Iowa and having said before I believe the players should be compensated more for putting their health at risk...I hope the players follow through on this and more players join the cause...

"Racial justice" for college football players?? How 'bout we have whites and Hispanics represented in the starting lineups of college football and basketball teams equal to their proportion of the general population??

You do understand how many kids are getting the opportunity for college degrees who would never otherwise sniff a college campus don't you? For the 90% of players who will never sniff the NFL, the scholarship is such a bonus that it is crazy to argue otherwise.

racial justice for players who are getting hundreds of thousands of dollars in education and post-college opportunities that white people would never get. And nobody is forcing them to slam into another person.

THE HORROR! My Allah are you ridiculous.

I hope the players follow through with it and the university pulls their scholarships.

How bout not being a stupid racist. They (everyone) has an equal opportunity. Best players play no matter race, color or religious beliefs.

Pretty sure he was being sarcastic.

BTW - maybe you didn’t hear. But mainstream media decided 3 months ago being “colorblind” is now racist.

I believe that if these kids are going to be used to make money for these schools when most schools won’t have actual students back in campus in person for classes then the scholarship is not enough compensation for them...they are being used as pawns for a money making enterprise, college football is about student athletes it’s about billions of dollars for schools

I wouldn't say being colorblind is racist. I would say being colorblind is ignoring the issue that race plays a major part in so many things. Look at it this way, would you say that you're disability blind? Meaning, you don't see someone who's disabled as any different than someone who's not disabled? The problem is you should. Someone who's disabled has inherent difficulties in all facets of life. It sounds good to say you don't see someone who has to use a wheelchair every day as different than anyone else, but they are. They have difficulties they must overcome that those who are fully-abled don't have to deal with. It's the same thing with race. If someone is "color blind," they're ignoring the difficulties that a person of color deals with on a daily basis.

It doesn't make you a racist to say you're color blind, it just means you're not seeing the impact that color plays on all of our lives.

Like most issues there are usually a lot of gray areas. One thing that often gets overlooked is the national exposure players get due to the lucrative television contracts they have through their conference affiliation. A lot of future nfl money was made by playing in front of millions of viewers on a saturday night in the fall.

And for the 99% of players that don’t go to the NFL but still put their bodies and now their health at risk?

I really don't know what the right answers are . I am just pointing out that some things tend to get over looked in the interest of one side . That 1% generally gets the credit for making the bulk of the money for the blueblood programs. As for scholarship players in general , i am all for anything an athlete can leverage for themselves. At the same time no one is ever forced to accept a scholarship and or play for any school.

I don’t get the idea that players have special leverage in 2020. Seems to me if the season is cancelled Due to COVID their leverage goes up in flames.

Pac 12 leading the way. A few more conferences follow their lead and we'll be waiting til 2021. Time to sit back and watch it unfold.

BS---and a full college scholarship >100K, is not payment enough for a STUDENT ATHLETE???; 95% will never see the Pros. Other students and families actually pay, take loans, and have pt jobs, I did. Let the PAC Ten fold; won,t be missed.

Pretty much. At the very least, financially speaking, the damage has not been realized. Wait till the season gets cancelled.

I see clearly that my brother-in-law, whom I love dearly, is black. I am not ignorant as to difficulties he has faced that I have not had to face. He sees clearly that I am white, and so was my sister. She was married twice to white men, who treated her like dirt. Tommy always treated her like a queen. Tell me, who do you think I have prejudiced attitudes toward????? The white guys, who were miserable human beings, or the black man I greatly admire and respect?

Why not? Is it not a current issue? I see no problem in engaging with an "opinion" n1tlion presented in OP. JayWye post is the one that needs to be called out for what he posted.

So eliminate the top money making sport as a result of one possible cancelled season? That makes absolutely no sense. You do realize the season hasn’t been cancelled because of how important FBS football is financially to universities. I just don’t understand why you would think the sport is on “life support”.

It’s good to know that you’re dammed if you do & dammed if you don’t. Don’t treat people differently, but please treat people differently.
