Stand-ins are typically used to make the shooting schedule easier, not having to have all the star actors/actresses on-set together in order to shoot scenes.

For example, for the scene where Paterno confronts Ganim in a dark alley and threatens to throw her in front of a train if she doesn't back off the Sandusky story*, they can still shoot parts of the scene if either Al Pacino or Riley Keough isn't available that day by using (much cheaper) stand-ins for shots where one character or the other's face isn't shown.

I have no idea what sort of swimming they have in mind for Paterno. Maybe a scene of him casually swimming laps in the pool while callously ignoring the cries of Sandusky's victim in the nearby locker room*?

*"Artistic license" may or may not have been taken for these scenes.

Who will be McQueray hearing "his own sounds" in a closed stall while he imagines things?

I knew dozens of Ganims in and out of dorm and motel beds.

Choo..choo.....

This would be the scene where Raykovitz tells Paterno to wear swim trunks.
