OT: More Williamsport Cheese Steak/Cosmo/Hoagie Porn

We don't appreciate how good we had it till you go back home. Hard to find a good cheese steak or hoagie here in md.

Heck it’s hard to find a a good cheesesteak in Lancaster Co. and near impossible to find a decent hoagie.

Never tried a cosmo (tried a Quiznos when they are around but that doesn’t count. Neither does Wawa baked subs.). Putting these recommendations on my hit list.

Newberry and Cellini's in Montoursville (might run into Mussina) for cheese steaks and cosmos. Unless you really want to go off the path, then - here

Looks awesome. What's the angioplasty rate up there compared to the statewide numbers ?

Half a Newberry Sub Shop's Italian Cosmo (not hard to figure out where the first half went):

How are Hoby’s hoagies? How is the roll?

Haven't had it. Haven't even had Joe's own roll. I don't get home enough.
Thanks. Appreciate all the good info you posted in this thread. On my next time through I am going to try a couple of different spots.

Go to Miletos or Cellini's your first time through would be my recommendation. And get a ham or Canadian Bacon cosmo. Then thank me ;)

Turkey cosmo at Joey's back in the day. Remarkable! Joey's is gone. For great pizza - Park Pizza near Bowman Field.
Here's a half from Mileto's (w/out the drug deals going down in the men's room like at Joey's):

Went to Mileto's for the first time today - got a whole chicken cheese steak with green peppers and mushrooms. It was fantastic! I will make my way up there again if for no other reason but to visit Mileto's.

Those pics all look so damn good. I live in NYC and OH, no sammies like that. Is that red sauce like some kind of spicy giardinera (sp?) mix. Soooo want one... what city are these newburghs and others near?

Hoagie peppers (cherry peppers w/ homemade oil) is the red stuff. Williamsport is North-Central PA.

So the places to hit are Newburghs, Cellinis...I definitely am stopping. Not sure worth a 7 hr round trip from NYC but. Those pics are like a dream

The Newberry section of Williamsport is the area west of Lycoming Creek centering around W. 4th St.

I did. Had a 16oz cheesesteak. Have a 1/4 of it to a kid going to the game with us. Very good. HS hoops Danville at Williamsport
Great! Sock and Williamsport play Saturday at Lycoming College I think. Kristi (owner/operator) at Miletos posted this on their FB page yesterday:

My most recent trip home did not have me that far west. I only got to Cellini's (twice) and Venice Pizza for cosmos.

It's near all the important things for many people.
Calm down. I love the place. Just pointing out, in response to a city slicker’s question as to what it is near, that it is rather isolated.

Gonna be a shake up for North Central PA sub lovers. Lycoming Bakers closed up suddenly today. They made the sub rolls for the vast majority of sub shops that I'm aware of.

Tuzzi’s in Berwick is alive and well. They have better bread anyway.

Yes.... Absolutely. The news has spread all throughout the area today. It's going to affect a ton of businesses.

I'm pretty sure Lycoming Bakers supplied the majority of the area high schools with bread and buns for sporting events. Considering there hasn't been any concessions stands in over a year, I'd imagine that put a big hit on them.

Friggin Covid!

I don't see how a bakery in Berwick would be able to meet the demand of the Susquehanna Valley. Pretty sure the majority of these sub shops get their bread delivered daily.

Hope they can make it happen!
Tuzzi’s actually used to provide buns for either the Yankees or Mets (maybe they still do). They have more capability than what it may seem.

Some bakery just got a windfall of clients. Hope the demand can be filled quickly.

Not sure if this link will work, it's from Facebook.

Sale of Lycoming Bakery to new owner in progress, hopes to reopen next week

If a deal is in fact in the works, it's pretty crappy they left people high and dry.

According to Lycoming Bakery's website, the company served the Central Pennsylvania area, including Allenwood, Berwick, Bloomsburg, Danville, Elysburg, Lewisburg, Lock Haven, Mansfield, Mifflinburg, Milton, Montoursville, Mount Carmel, Northumberland, Selinsgrove, Shamokin Dam, State College, Sunbury, and Williamsport.

@MtNittany

Do you know the former and soon-to-be new owner of the Lycoming Bakery....Matthew Cowden? He's also on the Board of the WCC and owns a few other businesses in town including The Buttery Biscuit Cafe.

Lancaster people swear by Smiths in Columbia, but that’s more quantity over quality as I see it.

My son says Ruffinos in Centerville is his second favorite after Dellasandros in Philly. I have not been there, yet.

I can't wait to get my fill over Christmas. Philly people and others mocking this thread don't get it. You can't compete! My first stop will be Joe's because it is so close to the HS and my home.
