I caught a cool documentary about the lost legions of Rome aka the Battle of the Teutoburg Forrest

In 9AD, Germanic tribes ambushed and destroyed three Roman legions and their auxiliaries (15,000), led by Varus.

I'm always looking for interesting history docs so, if anyone has any good recommendations it would be appreciated.
As an Army brat, lived in Germany . Visited Trier. Amazing the Roman ruins still in that area. Never thought of Roman encampments up in Germany that would build such structures .
The war in the beginning of the Russel Crowe flick also is about the Teutonic wars . Romans weren’t the best dense forest fighters, as most of their battles were on open fields .

Hardcore History podcasts are very interesting but you have to double check his history. Not completely accurate. As far as "Gladiator" the opening battle was in Austria and can only be called Teutonic in that sense. The battle of Teutoberger Wald (this thread) was led by Arminius, a Romanized German. His name has down to us as Herman. Varus was the Roman General and he was considered quite sloppy in his approach, which translated into an ambush. The Romans subsequently sent more expeditions into Germany and modern archaeology is now finding evidence of how far they did go. This battle is big with the Neo-Nazi and white nationalist crowd and you can find reference to it on their websites.
