ive never been to Hershey so I'm planning on taking the family the weekend of October 3rd. Is the Hershey Hotel worth the price? Any other hotels/attractions recommended?

Thanks in advance

Have driven by the hotel but never stayed there. I think it's pretty pricey. There are other hotels relatively close by which may be cheaper (although the wife may like some time at the Hotel Hershey spa after a few days at the park ;). ). It's literally right across the street from the park entrance.

Edit- Indian Echo Caverns are just down the road. Kids may like that. Also there are decent discounts (last I checked) if you go into Hersheypark after 5pm (5-10pm- although need to check end of season October hours on their site).

Only stayed there once during the Christmas season...don't remember all the details, but I enjoyed it a lot. Definitely worth the stay.

What's your budget? You're willing to forego the Army game for Hershey Park?

I've never been in the Hotel, and have lived in the area most of my life. It is pricey, and if you're kids are small, they may not enjoy it any more then a Motel 6. For the price, you can probably get a pretty decent Bed and Breakfast.

You may want to check to see if the park is open on Oct 3. After looking at the park site, it looks like they close for the summer at the end of September. They open for the Park in the Dark on Oct 16 and will be closed on the previous 2 weeks, as they need to get ready. The water rides are closed, I think. They run that for about 3 weeks, then close for a couple weeks as they get ready for Candyland right around Thanksgiving to New Years Eve. .

Thanks Forrester. I assumed they'd be open but I'll call.

I have stayed at the Hershey Lodge. Similar benefits to the Hershey Hotel and less expensive.

Agree with Lionguy. Hershey Lodge is a beautiful place, first class all the way, right down the road from Hotel Hershey, maybe a quarter mile, and probably much less expensive.

I actually lived in Hershey for 4 years..Chocolate Ave address...

Look in Hummelstown or Palmyra..two small towns only a few minutes from Hershey and the park..much less expensive.,,

It is easy to get around Hershey so not problem being out of town

The Hotel is beautiful and worth the money if you have money. If not, don't stay there as it won't be worth the money and you'll end up resenting the place. The Sunday brunch is a must but make reservations well in advance or you may get locked out. Someone mentioned the lodge and it is nice but not in the same league as the hotel.

Also, give us the ages of the children and we'll be able to help much better on your request.

Hershey Hotel is very nice, but when you make reservations make sure you discuss exactly what you are looking for in a room. The hotel has a number of different types of rooms. Make sure they understand what is important to you. Some of the rooms are more spacious than others, some have larger bathrooms than others, some have sitting ares others do not. Be specific about what you want.

We've attended several downtown Hershey New Year's Eve celebrations. We have always stayed at the Holiday Inn or the Hampton Inn off of the Grantville exit. Easy in and out. The Holiday Inn has a nice restaurant for breakfast/lunch/dinner. Hampton Inn is more scaled back. The casino is right up the road for some additional dining options.

Yes............. I'd argue as a one time, unique experience. Hotel Hershey is Definitely, worth the price! Gorgeous, Hotel! Great Food, & restaurants. Beautiful garden. Should be Beautiful, in the beginning of October, there!

I've been in the Hershey Hotel and the Hershey Lodge. The Hershey Hotel is beautiful, but it's extremely expensive. I'd opt for the Hershey Lodge if I were you. It's also very nice.

The Hotel Hershey is beautiful. However, if you are traveling with kids or teenagers, I would recommend the Hershey Lodge instead. It has an indoor pool, sports pub and restaurants more geared towards families with children. The Hotel Hershey has a spa, fine dining restaurants, really great bar, etc. it has became more casual in recent years, but I still think most kids would be bored there.
