OT: Happy 392nd Birthday, Christiaan Huygens

It’s always good to read of the greats, to be reminded of their accomplishments and of how far we have come.

We had this sweet older lady who taught Geometry across the hall from me when I first started teaching and one day one of her kids said, "why do we have to learn about this stupid Pythagoras guy and his damn triangles?"

Her reply was, "because I used to date him, thats why"

Half the class giggled but the kid who said it was dumbfounded and shut up for the rest of class.

Amazing the breadth of topics he studied. Some people argue we couldn’t do that today due to the specialization but still... this guy was the real deal.
