Pain in upper right molars. Had root canal done on 2nd molar. Now pain when chewing a hot/cold stimuli on last molar. Dentist cannot find anything wrong with last molar. Anyone ever have this problem? Dentist says to wait it out. Pain not subsiding a been this way for several months.

I had that problem. The dentist tried to reduce the height of the cap, and that helped a bit. But, the worst was when my MIL was on her deathbed. We were planning a trip, and her passing put a huge strain on whether we could make it or not. The pain got to be pretty constant. The dentist figured out that the problem was probably from stress. He figured out that I was clenching my teeth while I slept. That was a cause of the pain. He was right. When the daily stress went away, so did the pain.

Here's a longshot...

This happens to me...you could have a sinus toothache. I have chronic sinus crap all winter. Sometimes if those sinuses right above your upper teeth (maxillary?) get inflamed and loaded up with gunk it puts pressure on the roots of your upper molars and feels just like a toothache and you get the associated cold-sensitivity with it. It can become miserable. Might want to see your GP and see if you have a sinus infection and maybe they can treat it with antibiotics or home remedies can give you some relief like staying hydrated and gargling with warm salt water. Good luck.

go to another dentist...and don't go cheap

I had that problem and it was an issue with the filling not fitting correctly. The hot and cold is getting into the tissue and not the tooth enamel or filling/crown. The guy was a low end horse doctor type. I went to a very high end dentist who found the problem in about 15 seconds. Fixed in a half hour. He's been my dentist ever since.

I agree...go to another dentist. It may be the tooth root again

I was at the dentist yesterday and the hygienist told me something

similar. She had the same problem. Turned out to be allergies that affected her sinuses that caused tooth pain.

Sounds like an infection. You don't feel it in the tooth without the root and nerve but the live molar next to it. If not treated with the proper dosage of antibiotics it is going to get worse. I have had a root canal packed too tight and sealed before the infection had been fully treated, with the same result. Definitely see another dentist for an opinion. Those molars have 4 roots and are difficult for a non endo guy to properly perform the multiple root canals.

My wife is a Dental Hygienist and cmds

Take a sinus pill (Claritin) then you will know it is allergies or not

See a endodontist (root canal specialist) - could be non-root canal tooth via auxiliary roots - xray would should this

The 2nd molar which has had RC would not have temperature sensitivity, so I assume you are referring to your 3rd molar or wisdom tooth. If you have pain upon chewing with temperature sensitivity then a fractured tooth is likely. If you have temperature sensitivity only, that goes away quickly, the most common problem is cervical hypersensitivity due to root exposure. In that case try a toothpaste like Sensodyne, apply directly to the affected area, and wait a couple weeks for the sensitivity to subside. If you have temperature sensitivity that lingers for 10 minutes or longer then see an endodontist. Cervical hypersensitivity is a very common problem with many people and is treated in a variety of ways.

That's the best advice I can give you without seeing you.
