Nearing Opening Day

Practice officially opens on our around Oct. 10 every year. Wondering if that still holds true this year given that most seem to believe that competition will not begin until at least Jan. 1. What is the prevailing opinion around whether or not the NCAA will treat winter athletes the same as fall athletes and not take away a year of eligibility even if they compete this year? It almost seems as if they need to complete the cycle as they have given both spring athletes and fall athletes the extra year of eligibility. My apologies if this has already been discussed and I missed it.
