Authorities identified a person of interest they are seeking to apprehend in relation to the shooting. The person has been identified as Robert "Bobby" E. Crimo III, a 22-year-old who is believed to be driving a 2010 silver Honda Fit vehicle with an Illinois license plate that reads “DM80653.”

Trump Drops an Utterly Unhinged Harangue to Celebrate Himself on the 4th of July
News Corpse

There is nothing more predictable than Donald Trump turning the focus of any and every public event or commentary to himself. He is a textbook example of a malignant narcissist for whom all attention must always be placed on him no matter what the occasion. And this 4th of July is no different.

Trump is observing this Independence Day by throwing another one of his infantile distemper tantrums. This one comes in a burst of petulant rage that has surely been aggravated by the accumulating evidence of his criminality being presented by the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th insurrection that he incited.

The multi-post tirade that Trump hammered out on his Twitter clone website, TRUTH Social (that is both failing financially and flailing legally), was rife with his tediously repetitious whining and insults stemming from his delusions of victimhood. If nothing else, Trump has affirmed his place in history as America's biggest crybaby.

The rants that Trump posted cover a narrow range of topics mainly devoted to his "Big Lie" that the 2020 presidential election was 'rigged" and "stolen" from him. Never mind that after 20 months, and sixty court challenges, he has failed to produce a shred of evidence. What follows are some of his key points, with reality-based annotations:

Trump began by assailing the Republican vice-chair of the Committee as "despicable human being Liz Cheney." As usual, he is incapable of factually rebutting anything that she has said, so he resorts to childish name-calling.

He complained that "HER Fake Unselect Committee may recommend CRIMINAL CHARGES against" him. If he really believes the Committee is "fake," then why is he so worried about the charges?

He repeated his ridiculous boast that he "got more votes than any sitting President." So what? He also got fewer votes than Joe Biden. You know, the winner. And both candidates got large vote totals because the population - and the electorate - are bigger.

He's thinks the Committee should "press charges instead against those that cheated on the Election." They would if that weren't a figment of his perverse imagination. He's tried dozens of times to assert his cheating claim in court. And he lost every case, even those with Republican judges.

Returning to his name-calling, Trump lashed out at "the highly partisan Unselect Committee of political Thugs." Of course, the Committee has two very conservative Republicans. Although there is a partisan aspect to the witnesses who have testified against him. They are all Republicans.

Naturally, he had to unleash his objections to the "Impeachment Hoax #1, Impeachment Hoax # 2, the 'No Collusion' Mueller Report and, overall, the GREATEST WITCH HUNT IN THE HISTORY OF THE USA." True to form, everything that Trump doesn't like is either a hoax or a witch hunt.

He wants the Committee to "go after the people who have been rioting." That's exactly what the Department of Justice is doing. In fact, some 800 of them them have already been arrested for storming Congress and trying to overthrow the government, at Trump's behest.

Then he adds "No, let’s get 'Trump'!" Don't worry, Donald, they'll get around to you. Also, why do you put your own name in quotes, as if it's a fictional reference?

Finally, Trump says that "none of these terrible events would have happened if I were President!!!" First of all, it's good to see him admit that he is not president. But it's preposterous for him to claim that the events he's griping about, most of which he is responsible for, wouldn't have happened were he still occupying the White House. And he was responsible for many other horrendous events when he was there as well.

And that was Trump's 4th of July message to America. That was what his glassy-eyed cult disciples regard as a patriotic address. But then what else would you expect from the guy who refused to visit a war memorial for American soldiers because he considers them to be "losers" and "suckers"?

....According to Fox News, a canine unit was searching for the shooter, who remained at large. Robert E. Crimo III is the suspect’s name with middle initial. He also goes by the name Bobby Crimo. A disturbing and voluminous social media trail emerged for the shooter that shows weaponry and an obsession with mass shootings; in 2019, he shared a random video of President Donald Trump’s motorcade. Crimo, whose music is under the name “Awake the Rapper,” was also photographed at a Trump rally. Another picture showed him with a Trump flag around his shoulders......

....It appears that his father once had a sandwich shop, Bob's Pantry & Deli, on St. John's Ave., about a mile south of the shooting site. His father, Bob previously ran for mayor of Highland Park in April 2019 but lost. He was also a candidate for Highland Park City Council in 2013, but also did not win.

While Mr. Crimo's social media is relatively blank, he has "liked" a few tweets that indicate he may have political leanings to the right.

During the COVID crisis, the elder Crimo commented that he enjoyed the end of President Donald Trump's press conference in which he refused to allow female reporters to ask questions, calling one of them "nasty."

There is no indication that the younger Crimo held the same political leanings as his father. There is a photo of him standing in front of a Trump flag, however.......

Artillery activity today in the Kherson region is just incomprehensible.

The whole line of demarcation between Russian and Ukrainian control is simply being plowed. It’s hard to even say who is doing the work here, there are areas — on the south end of the line, and near Davydiv Brid — where the big blasts seem to be falling solidly in Russian occupied territory. But at other points, fire is raining down right on what was thought to be the area of conflict between the two sides.

When it comes to Davydiv Brid, here’s just that part of the line in detail.

The area shows intense, but also precisely targeted fire, blanketing square kilometers of area east of the Inhulets River.

Ukrainian forces are reported to still hold a bridgehead in this area.

Uniquely American event marks the nation's birthday: Yet another mass shooting
Laura Clawson

The major shooting of the Fourth of July weekend was the one in Highland Park, Illinois, that killed six and wounded dozens more. But while that was the only mass shooting to draw significant national attention, it wasn’t the only one. In the early hours of the holiday, five people were wounded in a shooting elsewhere in the Chicago area. On Monday night, during a fireworks display, two police officers were grazed by bullets as crowds fled gunshots.

And while mass shootings that kill six and injure dozens remain noteworthy even in the United States of Gun Violence, this was not a uniquely violent July 4 weekend: In 2021, more than 230 people were killed by gun violence over the holiday weekend, and that was a drop from the previous year.

The dead in Highland Park include Jacki Sundheim, a former preschool teacher who worked at the North Shore Congregation Israel, and Nicholas Toledo, a disabled 76-year-old whose son and granddaughter’s boyfriend also sustained injuries.

The alleged shooter in Highland Park has been arrested. Like so many mass shooters before him, he is strikingly young. He has an online posting history filled with violent imagery, little of it directly political, though he did have two posts indicating support for Donald Trump. Police said he used a “high powered rifle,” but haven’t yet offered details on the weapon. We know, though, that it’s one of the kinds that can kill or injure dozens of people in the span of minutes.

According to Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering, the gun was obtained legally, because this is a country where a young man fascinated with violence can legally obtain the kind of weapon suitable for a massacre and not much more.

”This tragedy never should have arrived on our doorsteps,” Rotering said. As long as she understands that it should never have arrived in Uvalde, or Buffalo, or any of the other cities that have suffered mass shootings due to lax U.S. gun laws, even if not all of those cities are as wealthy as Highland Park. Highland Park, by the way, has an assault weapons ban, just as Illinois has some of the strongest gun laws in the country—but when your neighbors have extremely weak gun laws, firearms will make their way into your area regardless. Less than half the guns recovered after crimes in Illinois are purchased in the state, according to law enforcement, with weapons coming in from Indiana, Missouri, and other states.

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker had strong words following the shooting. “It is devastating that a celebration of America was ripped apart by our uniquely American plague,” he said. “A day dedicated to freedom has put into stark relief the one freedom we, as a nation, refuse to uphold: The freedom of our fellow citizens to live without the daily fear of gun violence.”
