Maryland's New Indoor Practice Facility

It will help, and they are getting some recruits but they have to win games. I would bet they go 5-7 again and lose some steam on the recruiting front. By late October they will be talking basketball

Sweet. Love the glass so that their practices could be observed or even filmed by an opponent that might want to do so.

As predicted, the move to the B1G will have a huge impact on MD and Rut.

Brings some $40 million per year in new money. You can buy a lot of facility upgrades and coaches when you are spotted a trust fund account that comes in no matter what.

Except they both were (are) in budget hell.

MD certainly was when they joined, per the public reports. Looked like their Ath Dept was going belly up with deficit spending.

You make an interesting point getmyjive11, regarding what it will take for them to get on stable ground.

If you have any details, fire away. Interested in any updates.

Whatever it is, it appears they could now fund this new facility.

That's kind of the point. When they are spotted over $40 Million per year in new cash flow (or whatever the difference is between B1G and ACC, when they get a full B1G share) they have more options.

Some believe with the new media contracts, B1G school revenue could approach the $60 million mark per year. We will have to see how that pans out over time and where the numbers settle. Online subscription revenue is another nice little revenue stream that the B1G has negotiated for the conference.

LOL - You can add a lot of Asst ADs with that kind of dough. ;)

Don't get me wrong, both schools are much better off financially in the Big Ten. Maryland is willing to spend cash and has a sugar daddy, so they will continue to have nice things. They may not be able to pay top dollars for their football coaches, but they will be okay. Rutgers, on the other hand runs a deficit of well over 20 million each year. Their administration is under great pressure to end that, so much of their gain will be eaten away. And keep in mind that they need to upgrade nearly everything.

Our football facilities are competitive. Our new practice fields and stadium are up to par. The strength and conditioning center and separate indoor practice facility is OK. Not as nice as OSU and Michigan, but good enough. It is my hope that we will be able to build a state of the art S&C Center/Indoor practice facility, just like Maryland, OSU, Michigan, and PSU have.

My high school stadium in Pittsburgh is on par with Rutgers. Ross-Aide and Kyle Field are the only two other stadiums in the B1G that have a quasi high school feel similar to Rutgers.

Practice fields aren't going to move the needle with recruits. Think what you want but Rutgers' football facility is soon to be the worst in the Big Ten.

That why the latest round of renovations to las hunt building were so important. Penn State were at or near the bottom prior to the latest renovation. The neglect in not investing in keeping up the building was terrible. There is still a ton of work to be done on them.

We need to expand the weight room, work on the office area of Lasch, level out the practice fields and possibly renovate Holuba once they build the Indoor facility for the other sports. Beaver stadium is a net positive due to its size and atmosphere, so it's not as important as those other projects. But yeah, we are probably only in the middle of the Big Ten in terms of facilities.

Thanks for your inputs getmyjive11.

Maryland is, and always will be, a basketball school. This isn't tough folks. Go to a b'ball and a football game there in the same year then you'll know.
