And his team has spent an enormous amount of time assessing financials, management, and the strategic plan.
he's running a holding company. For some reason he loves that. If I was going to try and get super rich, I would not be very interested in doing it that way. What he does sounds kind of dull to me

yeah. It just sounds really boring. People like Bill Gates and Elon Musk got rich doing things that are interesting. He really didn't
I think writing code is boring. Buffet has high prestige, gets to travel, meet people, be wined & dined, acquire businesses, and grow them profitably. I don't think that would be boring.

It's a different level but do you think the Shark Tank people live boring lives?

The game of chicken b/w the Fed and the market will go on between now and March, but the bottom falls out regardless. There is no good way out of this one
I doubt that we'll see double digit returns for the next 10 years but I'm certainly not convinced we're in the midst of a - 30% market crash.

None of that sounds interesting to me. After a few rounds of that, I'd stop being impressed. Unless I was the type of person who is just impressed with myself. Maybe that is what drives Buffet, I don't know. I sometimes notice that the finance dummies are impressed by the number in and of itself. They will say "Apple is worth over a trillion dollars". Like that in and of itself is meaningful. The number in and of itself is not why Apple is interesting or important. But they might not have the intellectual capacity to process more than that.

Microsoft built an operating system that everyone could use when that was the new frontier. That's actually creating something

Nobody can predict that with any certainty. But, if you are certain that the market is overvalued (as it is now, without a doubt, at levels only seen twice in history), then it makes sense to have some cash to buy after a big correction. If the market goes down by 20%, it has to increase 40% to get back to that level, so it just makes sense to have some cash to buy corrections right now.

We might be seeing high inflation, but it seems like the tech stocks are mysteriously overvalued like they were in 2000. So much so that I think they crash in nominal terms, even with inflation.
I wouldn't be a huge buyer of equities right now and I agree with your suggestion of having some cash to take advantage if there's a 20% correction. The problem is when do you buy? After the market drops 10%? 20%? 30%? The bottom is difficult to predict.

You seem to think a mortgage meltdown type of crash is imminent. If you really think so you should sell all equity investments immediately and go 100% cash.

Yes, I do think something like that is going to happen soon. but it is impossible to know when.

But I would never go 100 percent cash unless I was about 35 years older than I am right now.

I would rather just have 15-25% on the side ready to buy a big correction, to bump up the returns after that. In the long run, it will eventually be much higher than now.

But I am predicting that some of these tech stocks are absolute bullshit and will drop by 100%

Fair point, but I was talking more about the Windows OS itself, which basically started as graphics for MS DOS. I think this was before '87.

Maybe Gates was a bad example, because there were allegations that he copied some of that, too.

I guess the point was that I would find it more interesting to be creating some kind of product than to spend all my time studying accounting reports, which is what it seems like Buffet's company does

God help those who just retired or left the workforce thinking they were going to live off their gains.

So now we've got hugely negative real interest rates AND a falling stock market.

Anyone want to venture a guess as to where all that printed cash is heading?

I'm curious to see what happens to real estate. All those folks saying that only the rich will suffer from a down market are in for a rude awakening.

I certainly hope the market stops falling.

Not that I wouldn't enjoy a great buying opportunity, but I wouldn't put it past the Dems to use a selloff as an excuse to fire Powell and replace him with someone even worse. They do tend to think with their emotions.

Imagine having a woke central bank. The latest replacements seem to suggest we are heading in that direction.

Life could be worse…you could be as unfortunate as OBJ

US sports-star Odell Beckham, Jr., who on 12 November signed a contract for $750,000 in Bitcoin, which is now worth half that in dollars - and yet he is going to be taxed at 50.3% federal and local, which means he will net $35,703.

Reminds me of people who exercised stick options but held the stock during the .com crash.

I don't remember exact examples so let's say employee had options to buy the stock at $10 that was now trading at $1,000. That's a $990 taxable gain but then the stock price fell to $200. A lot of one time millionaires declared bankruptcy because they couldn't pay their taxes.
