We are 4-5 against Big10 both seasons. 8-10 over two seasons. No nonconference games last yr and Beat two cupcakes (but couldn’t run ball on Villanova) and beat Auburn with Whiteout magic before team invariably gets beat up in Big10 play. Finesse team with not enough discipline and muscle in trenches.
If my memory is correct, lost to OSU and Iowa twice, Michigan and Michigan State once (won once against them), lost to these teams once-Indiana, Illinois, Nebraska, Maryland (beat three of those once), beat Rutgers twice, beat Wisconsin once.
Despite many close losses, some perplexing coaching issues, the main problem is lack of toughness, heart, execution and discipline especially along the offensive line. How often has Clifford had a true clean pocket, had to rush throws, get beat up. This year we had a warrior, Dotson who had toughness, discipline, heart, execution who paired with Clifford to keep games close or win some. Tough defense that did crack at times esp in Illinois and Michigan State. We had poor running back play and horrible Oline play all year.
Franklin needs to toughen up or bring in an assistant to toughen up the trenches. Franklin’s saving grace is his recruiting prowess and the talent infusion with class coming in January will help mightily. My hope is Franklin looks in the mirror and adjusts as the last two years were not anomalies to be wished away— learn from them, own them and course correct. Your contract and trust by PSU deserves that.
