Know Your Penn State Wrestlers (KYPSW) 2018-19

Big Ten Wrestling Pre-Seeds Announced
Penn State paces conference with four top-seeded wrestlers

ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Big Ten Conference announced the preliminary seeds for the 2019 Big Ten Wrestling Championships, which are set for March 9-10 at Minnesota. Seven schools boast at least one top-seeded wrestler, with Penn State leading the way with four No. 1 seeds.

Iowa, Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State will bring a seeded wrestler in each of the 10 weight classes, while Nebraska and Northwestern boast a seeded grappler in nine classes.

The pre-seeds, as voted on by the conference’s coaches, rank the top eight wrestlers in three weight classes, along with all 14 starters in seven weight classes due to the Big Ten receiving nine or more NCAA Championships qualifier allocations in those classes.

Penn State boasts four top-seeded wrestlers, with 157-pounder Jason Nolf, 165-pounder Vincenzo Joseph, 174-pounder Mark Hall and 197-pounder Bo Nickal. The Fighting Illini's Michael Carr (141), the Wolverines’ Stevan Micic (133), the Gophers’ Gable Steveson (285), the Wildcats’ Sebastian Rivera (125), the Buckeyes’ Myles Martin (184) and the Scarlet Knights' Anthony Ashnault (149) round out the group of top-ranked grapplers.

This year’s field contains a combined 10 Big Ten individual championships (eight wrestlers) and eight NCAA individual championships (five wrestlers).

Drumroll please. Below are the results of the Big Ten Championships KYPSW contest.

Hanging on the podium by a thread, we have HockeyGod. Yes, the two guys below him were tied with him, but first tiebreaker after total, picks and bonus is number of posts, and HG was clearly the leader there. In 7th is Lyco1990, who kept telling me all weekend how well the contest was going for him. YearoftheHeisman (1973? birth year? PSU graduation?), psumacw and adg297 come in 6th, 5th and 4th, respectively.

That only leaves us with three spots left. In the bronze position is Acacia71 from the 247Sports board. The silver standard, and also dual season runner up, is CholleyVandine. And, in the top position, numero uno, the Grand Poobah of the B1G is PennState97! <noisemakers, champagne pops, crowd cheering> Congratulations! PSU97, you can now brag for one year that you're the B1G KYPSW Champion. That gets you free beer all day tomorrow.

These are not final, until everyone has had ample time to tell me I screwed up. Which, if I did, please let me know. By now, it doesn't faze me any more.

TOM MCANDREW: I don't know if you care, or can even do anything about it, but there appears to be a daylight savings time error in the time stamps. Message 775 appears to be correct, Friday night at 9:51 PM. Message 776 jumps to Saturday night at 11:17 PM. After several more Saturday night messages, it reverts to Saturday morning at 1:52, in message 779.

Strange.

I feel really badly about this. I am about to ruin some peoples' days, and just feel awful about it. In fact, if any of you see me in Pittsburgh, you should likely stop me and buy me a beer to help me get over it.

Unfortunately, I made some rookie errors. Unacceptable for a several year veteran of this thing. YearoftheHeisman and Lyco, could you please send your medals and prize money back? I'm sorry, but you have been pushed off the podium.

"To the fans and everybody in BWI Nation, I’m sorry, extremely sorry. I was hoping for an undefeated KYPSW season. That was my goal, something never done here.

But I promise you one thing, a lot of good will come out of this.

You will never see any poster in the entire thread play as hard as I will play the rest of the season, and you will never see someone push the rest of the team as hard as I will push everybody the rest of the season, and you will never see a team play harder than we will the rest of the season.
god bless."
