Sorry this is late guys. It was quite a week.

So, for Maryland, Roar sent me a message a few hours before the match, telling me that Maryland had a bunch of guys listed in their Match Notes, so I figured this match was going to be a cluster. As it turns out, PSU decided to send out Gardner and Kerkvliet, so those two matches are out, as I didn't have them listed in my Match Notes. Thanks, Cael. <G>

Take a close look over your scores, as I'm just not feeling it this morning.

Also, since the last dual has been completed <sad face>, that means that we can crown a KYPSW Dual Season Champion. I'll get those out later today.

I have pointingdogsrule at 17, picked the Decision win at 149 correctly for an extra point. Everyone else that I have is dead on with your numbers.

Well, it is with great sadness that, after only six duals, the dual season portion of KYPSW 2021 comes to a close. It's over before we even blinked. However, since the last dual has been contested, it is time to crown the *KYPSW 2021 Dual Season Champion.

Before that, though, I need to point out that there were a few tiebreak situations. Both came down to third criteria, most messages on the players respective message board, and there was a three way tie for the last spot on the podium. Two players are walking away, feeling like they false started in UTB to lose the biggest match of their lives.

For the eighth spot on the podium, tomsc, PSUbluTX and nittinsc, all had 113 total points, 96 points for picks and 19 points for bonus. So, the dastardly third criteria it is. Tomsc wins the eighth spot, by virtue of posting just 53 more posts than PSUbluTX and 336 more than nittinsc.

Sixth and seventh also came down to a tiebreaker between Nittany Sluggo and Gumby79. Nittany Sluggo just edges out Gumby, 3773 to 147.

Crunched comes in at #5, and perennial podium sitter, RoarLions1, comes in at #4. I think maybe he's taking root on there.

Another steady annual performer, Acacia71, makes his way into third to collect the bronze medal, while nerfstate wins silver with his fine showing.

That leaves Jayhouse at the top of the podium, taking the gold as the *KYPSW 2021 Dual Season Champion! This is interesting, because he did it on the strength of his bonus points, scoring 25 points for picking the win type, while only Crunched was in the 20s, with 20.

Congratulations, Jayhouse!!! You now have bragging rights for about a year. While you're still out of breath from the competition, tell us how you feel, what led to your success, and what you need to do to win BigTens!

And, since the dual season is over, that can only mean that it is time for the 2021 KYPSW Big Ten portion. Remember, this is a standalone contest, in addition to being part of the cumulative overall season KYPSW Championship.

Description

The B1G Championships functions as a qualifier tournament for Nationals. The B1G will automatically qualify a certain number of wrestlers per weight class, based on their placing at the B1G Championships. The auto-qualifiers (AQs) will number as follows: 8 @ 125, 133, 141, 157, 165, 174 and 184; 7 @ 149 and 285; 6 @ 197. In addition, there is a need to determine an extra place finish beyond the AQ at each weight to identify the wrestler that falls one place short of being an AQ, per one of the criteria needed to attain “Bronze Standard” for eligibility to obtain an “at-large” berth to Nationals. Long-story-short, the 8 AQ weights will have placement to 9th. All others will have placement to 8th.

What You Need To Do
For each of the 10 PSU wrestlers competing at the B1G Championships, predict his:
(1) Place Finish, per the placing categories listed below for each weight class; and
(2) Total Number of Bonus Points (to the nearest half-point) scored during the tournament EXCLUDING matches wrestled to determine 9th place through 14th place.

All predictions must be posted in this thread by 10:00 AM Eastern on Saturday, March 6th.

Placing Categories, By Weight Class

125: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, or “DNP
133: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, or “DNP
141: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, or “DNP”
149: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, or “DNP”
157: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, or “DNP
165: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, or “DNP”
174: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, or “DNP”
184: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, or “DNP
197: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, or “DNP”
285: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, or “DNP”

*Note: As you can see, there is a minimum of 8 place finishes for each weight class. We essentially predict the placing based on the number of AQs +1 for all weights with at least 8 auto-qualifiers. Beyond that, we predict “DNP” for “does not place”.

Scoring

For each PSU wrestler, you will be awarded “Placement Points” based on your prediction for where the wrestler places in the tournament. You will also be awarded “Bonus Points” based on your predicted number of bonus points scored by the wrestler (excluding extra matches wrestled for 9th-14th place). The scoring structure for Placement Points and Bonus Points are listed below.

Placement Points
30 points for predicting a wrestler's place finish exactly (includes the “DNP” category)
25 points for a prediction being off by 1 place
20 points for a prediction being off by 2 places
15 points for a prediction being off by 3 places
10 points for a prediction being off by 4 places
0 points for a prediction being off by 5 or more places
Note: Any "DNP" finish is considered 1 place away from the final placement position for the weight.

Bonus Points
4 points awarded for predicting a wrestler's bonus point total exactly (to the nearest half-point)
3 points awarded for a prediction that is off by 0.5 points
2 points awarded for a prediction that is off by 1.0 points
1 points awarded for a prediction that is off by 1.5 points
0 points awarded for a prediction that is off by 2.0 or more points
Note: Major Decision = 1.0 bonus points; Tech Fall = 1.5 bonus points; Fall, Medical Forfeit, Injury Default, and Disqualification = 2.0 bonus points.

The maximum attainable score under this system is 340 points. Tiebreaker criteria are (1) most placement points, (2) most “30-point” placement predictions, (3) most “25-point” placement predictions, (4) most “20-point” placement predictions, (5) most “15-point” placement predictions, (6) most “10 point” placement predictions, and (7) most Rivals or 24/7 posts.

Example Predictions/Outcomes/Scoring

Example 1. I predict Wrestler A to finish 5th and score 1.5 bonus points. Wrestler A actually places 1st and scores 2.0 bonus points. I receive 10 Placement Points (1st – 5th = -4 = 10 pts) and 3 Bonus Points (2.0 – 1.5 = 0.5 = 3 pts) for a total of 13 points for my Wrestler A weight class prediction.

Example 2. I predict Wrestler B to finish 9th in a 9 AQ weight class and score 2.0 bonus points. Wrestler B actually places 4th and scores 4.0 bonus points. I receive 0 Placement Points (4th – 9th = -5 = 0 pts) and 0 Bonus Points (4.0 – 2.0 = 2.0 = 0 pts) for a total of 0 points for my Wrestler B weight class prediction.

Example 3. I predict Wrestler C to finish “DNP” and score 0.0 bonus points in a weight class with 8 AQ. Wrestler C actually finishes 7th and scores 1.0 bonus points. I receive 20 Placement Points (7th – DNP = 2 = 20 pts) and 2 Bonus Points (1.0 – 0.0 = 1.0 = 2 pts) for a total of 22 points for my Wrestler C weight class prediction.

Example 4. I predict Wrestler D to place 9th and score 1.5 bonus points. Wrestler D actually withdraws after his first match, does not place in the top 10, and scores 0.0 bonus points. I receive 20 Placement Points (DNP – 9th = 2 = 20 pts) and 1 Bonus Point (0.0 – 1.5 = -1.5 = 1 pt) for a total of 21 points for my Wrestler D weight class prediction.

I will post a link to B1G pre-seeds when they are announced and actual seeds and brackets when they become available.

Again, all predictions must be posted in this thread by 10:00 AM Eastern on Saturday, March 6th.

Although these scores will be compiled with the Dual Season and Nationals scores to crown an overall season champion, all are welcome to join this particular event to be crowned B1G champion. Good luck!

This is how your picks should look. No names, just the weight, placement finish and bonus points. These will be my picks, but will be edited before next Saturday, after the brackets come out.

I don’t know who this “great team” Jayhouse character is, with all these “bonus points,” but I gotta tell you about the flu I had, the type & duration of the transportation I took, and to show you a few stills that show my clear victory mere seconds before the average official weighed in.

I received a frantic vmail from my agent late Friday night yelling for me to race over to the "Before Starting a New Thread" thread and bump it 54 times. Alas, I misunderstood him to say "before baking more bread," along with something about the size of my waistline. So, naturally, I took no action.

I gotta say, I'm very happy to have about a year of bragging rights. My success was based on mostly luck. I did get away with a huge mistake, by putting pics in the wrong thread. With the pandemic I've been watching more wrestling. I finally bought a couple months of BTN+. For me to win bigs it's gonna take a miracle. Through the years tourney season has been bad for me. At best middle of the pack. I can't wait to see what this group of talented kids can do at Bigs.

Thank you to Pa and Roar for putting this together. Very grateful for all the work you do.

I reluctantly followed 98lber's good example in using PAW's requested formatting. It was mentally painful to omit all semblance of punctuation. To me it looks like a bunch of random passcodes. o_O PAW, does this format help you input the numbers into your spreadsheet?

After adding and deleting hyphens and commas a few times, I finally struck a bargain with my OCD. Bolded weight classes in exchange for no punctuation. 😬

It neither helps, nor hurts. Each of these will take me 15 seconds to input. I just didn't want names, or any other clutter in there. Commas wouldn't have killed me.

The bold looks nice, though. Congrats! 😀

Tried entering a few extra spaces between numbers (which would help me, even if it doesn't help pa), and the formatting (1 space between numbers) stays the same after the post is saved.
