Football James Franklin ranked top 10 coach in college football

got love when people defend anyone by mentioning other people. Just goes to show, you have no defense. Franklin is definitely below both the above mentioned names.
Franklin is below every coach with a winning record the past two seasons. Know how we know that?

Facts. 11-11.

Nope, just pointing out the hypocrisy of your post.

Every team played on the same field with the same ball during covid.
Right.. preparation means nothing in football.. everybody was affected the same by covid all over the country.. the 9 game season starting in late October played in empty stadiums should be evaluated the same as 2016-2019.. you sound ridiculous when you include 2020. Keep your criticism to 2021 if you want any credibility. 2021.. good team, bad running game, couldn't close games so a poor record resulted. A good coach will fix those things in the offseason and be much improved. We'll likely be top ten in the hunt in the B1G again this year which has been the norm with Franklin.

About the same number of wins Ryan Day has had against teams with more talent….and Nick Saban for that matter.
Well there is the little issue that no one has more talent than Alabama and Ohio State. And that is directly attributable to Day and little Nicky.

Top 10 and in the hunt in 2022? Much more likely to see another 7-6-ish type record…which is actually becoming more Franklin’s norm.

Exactly my point….to criticize Franklin based on arbitrarily deciding that every team he loses to except OSU has less talent and use that as an argument to point out why he’s a poor coach, then if Day and Saban were good coaches, they would never lose a game ever, except Day would be okay to lose to Saban.

How was it hypocrisy? Everything I posted are facts. During James time with PSU, PSU has beaten one end of the year top ten team.(OSU). One on the fence top ten team in Washington but that is it. Why you all think he is a good coach with his record vs all the talent brought in is mind boggling to anyone that follows college football. The PS brand would bring in talent with any decent coach and recruiter. We all should expect better results. Unfortunately James is outcoached weekly.

True. Some loses are expected. Simply pointing out that he never beats a team with more or equal talent. But surely loses to teams with less to much less talent.

Talent based on your opinion. You can’t just arbitrarily state that every team we play has less talent. A three star senior is most often a better football player than a four star freshman. Not to mention certain teams with fewer “star” recruits overall might have more at certain critical positions. And according to the coaching geniuses on this board, every loss he’s ever had has been his fault and not expected at all.

He owns them all. PSU has not had a lot of players leave early. Never a real young team compared to other teams. Franklin recruited the players and developed them. The loses all go on him. He is consistently out coached and never makes good halftime adjustments. Once again response had no substantial defense of his coaching performance.

42 wins in four years, a Big 10 championship and NY6 bowls….there’s your defense of his coaching performance. And he has a lot of players leave early. And this isn’t a PlayStation game where he controls the players with a joystick…the players have quite a bit to do with the losses. And the NFL has a lot of guys he recruited and developed. Who’s the magical coach out there that’s going to turn PSU into a perennial CFP team?

Nothing again. How many of those were top ten, top 15. Keep reading the tea leaves with the 42 wins. Most against inferior opponents. Two quality wins. OSU and Washington. Those two were the only top 15 wins on the end of the year polls by my count.

Fans do have to take his 42 wins in 4 years into account.

They also cannot ignore that he's 11-11 in his past 2 years.

You can't just pick one data set and discard others. On either side of the debate.

The question is, can Franklin get back to where we were in 2016-19?

He hasn't beaten a top-10 team since 2016. 9 straight losses and counting. That's simply not a feature of an elite-level coach. Now......if his only 9 losses were to top-10 teams, that's different. But it's clearly not.

Hell, Les Miles won 44 games in a 4-season stretch. And then fell off. John Cooper won 43 games in 4 seasons before then going 6-6 and 8-4 and getting fired. Mack Brown won 45 games in 4 seasons before then losing 7, 5, 4, and 5 games and getting fired.

We'll see if Franklin turns it around, but he'd hardly be the first guy to have a great 4-year run and then implode. There's valid reason to be concerned about exactly that.
