How soon till High School recruits have agents who steer the recruits to the highest payers.

Already happens with AAU basketball behind the scenes more than likely.
Was going to say this. Coached HS sports for 20+ years now and its been going on for 10+ of those years for sure. AAU and non publics HS basketball has many coaches who are only in it for the handler fees.

that's been happening for years. Was part of the Terrell Pryor going to tOSU. While they didn't write him a paycheck, they have a whole program on how he can collect "collectables" that he could borrow against until he was in the NFL. remember, he sold the gold pants given to him as a result of beating UM. The only difference is that NIL is above boards.

Private schools have recruited athletes from our public school with free tuition and the opportunity to "re-class" and get an extra year of high school for those who are younger or late developers. Some of these schools are $40k+ per year. That doesn't necessarily make them woth what paid for or, frankly better than our public school that has a great history of success. My dad nearly jumped out his office window when he realized he was paying the same tuition for Widener for my sister as his brother was paying for Penn for my cousin. "Value" like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.

i think what some of you are missing the amount of money has just grown exponentially. Cam Newton was the best QB in college and I think ended up with $150k. Reggie Bush family got a simimliar money via some cheap housing. Today's best high school players are looking for $500-$1.5M. When talking that kind of money, agents will get involved. Agents cannot make money with McDonald's bags and casino chips and $10k or $50k. Agents can make money when things start going into 6 and 7 figure type negotiations. I suspect you will see agents come into play next year. This is the first true year of NIL and you are hearing some numbers and seeing now how it is playing out. Agents are putting together their business plans now and starting to make contact with the top junior players. I guarantee next year you will see agents involved in the Top 10-20 high school kids and it will snowball from there. College football will be unrecognizable to most people in 3-4 years.

Agents already are giving hs kids 'loans' to help them out until they go pro in hope to land them as a client.
Giving a kid 100k as a hs sr and steering him to a specific school is an easy investment for 4% of a future 10 million dollar contract with NIL/endorsements.

The early signing period for 4 & 5 * players will be a thing of the past. They can get an auctioneer and have the recruits there with all the coaches and go to the highest bidder. Then in a year they could hit the portal and do it all over again.

This appears to be a wide-open field with so much money being transacted.
We probably need to define "agent" in this context.

It would seem completely irresponsible to allow 18-22yo kids to sign contracts for substantial sums related to their NIL, and bar them from having professionals to look after their interests.
Not sure this necessarily equates to professional sports agents, but certainly, the kid from TX who 'played school' for a year in Columbus, needs someone to review a million dollar endorsement contract.

I'm not sure what the rule on this is today? I suspect kids could engage a lawyer to review an endorsement contract, but probably can't hire anyone registered as a professional sports agent. Can they hire a business manager or "talent agent" to search out NIL endorsements? Has anyone followed NIL to this degree?
To the OPs question and based on AAU basketball, it would seem like, today, there would be a lucrative business to manage the NIL of these "amateurs" prior to them signing with a sports agent who deals with professional athletes, if allowed.

Sitting in the Syracuse student section as a 23 or 24 year ad guy I nearly got beaten up by the fraternity of the employee of mine who was my host.

Cuse was hanging in a good contest....Dome Foam was flowing. Big punt chases OJ back to our 6 yard line...he zigs and zags for long td. I stand up and cheer. Some little squid dude dunks a beer on my head. I grab him by the throat when my buddy begs me to walk away because all the guys around me are committed to defending their douchebag "brother." I got out of there fast but think of that whenever OJs name comes up!

I believe that they are referred to as "friends of the family"

See ya, college sports. It was fun while it lasted.
