from anyone or anything? Are we truly free from the Freeh Report, or the NCAA Sanctions, and are we truly independent? This is more of a philosophical question for July 4th.

Sadly no. We are at the earliest stages of our insurgency, of our quest for freedom from the old guard BOT, of our search for the truth. We are at a stage much like the colonists the the Boston Tea Party (did they wear t-shirts?). As has been said many times, paraphrasing Churchill, "this is not the end. It is not the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning."

There's no autonomy at all. Everything is reactionary. Anything independently constructed within the university that is met with outside criticism is immediately walked back and apologized. (That is, anything except that which is met with criticism by the alumni.)

Fairgambit: I'm afraid that you are correct in this assessment. Even when the truths come out, and prove that Joe Paterno had nothing to do with any kind of a cover up, the general public has a tarnished view of Penn State. That is why we, the alumni and supporters, must take a leadership role in keeping success with honor intact!
