Good Kolat Story From 4/3

Kolat will have at least one incoming recruit who seems capable of reaching the NCAA podium at some point -- Andrew Cerniglia, the AA champ from ND Green Pond.

..Cerniglia defeated two-time state champion Thayne Lawrence, of Frazier, 11-8 in the 160-pound final at the PIAA Class 2A tournament. It’s the second straight state crown for the Crusaders athlete, who won at 145 last winter.

Cerniglia, who spent his first two years at Nazareth and overcame multiple injuries, wrapped up his high school career at 121-17. He won the Beast of the East and Escape the Rock tournaments this winter, and was runner-up at the Walsh Jesuit Ironman.

“I've overcome some adversity in my high school career. Ending on a good note means a lot,” he said.

The Crusaders won their first PIAA team title with 114 points, besting Montoursville (103) and Southern Columbia (98.5).

Veres knows a ton of the program’s success can be linked back to Cerniglia.
