I’m going with 8-4. We’ve got another new OC and it will take time for the O to learn the new system. We have no real depth at LB and it’s concerning if we have an injury. Ditto with the QB situation.

The O line is supposed to be a strength but we’ve heard that for the past several years and it has not happened. The DB situation is in great shape.

8-4
Losses to Wisconsin, Auburn, Ohio State and Indiana
I'm mostly in agreement here. Maybe 9-3.

They get off to pretty bad starts under Franklin, as if they're not prepared. Wisconsin and Auburn will probably be losses. Then they'll make adjustments and go on a roll, with a loss to Ohio State along the way.

Ten and two.Ryan Days recruiting has been ridiculous and someone else but it won't be Indiana.

And at least the usual suspects will call to fire Franklin- regardless of the record. 12-0 is not good enough.

The Big 10 teams that played well against Auburn pounded the ball against them, ie, Wisky and Minny. Lets hope this OL can run block so our RB's don't have to have 10 rushes for 12 yards before we break one.

After last season I wouldn’t be thrilled but could probably live with that, as long as the other team isn’t Rutgers. The thought of those douche bags coming here every day and chortling would make for a miserable off season.

You must be drinking a lot of Bloody Mary's at work this Sunday morning :)

In one way or another, we will feel disappointed. We’re long overdue for some top-flight QB play. It all depends on Clifford. Brown’s leaving really set us back, what a blow, impactful in so many ways. What a letdown. We’re still feeling it’s impact, this year.
It’s hard to feel optimistic, lately.

O$U breaking in a new QB has to be worth something. I say we beat them and finish 11-1 or 12-0. That means a lot of ?s step up but that’s always going to be the case for us.

Look buddy, just because you’re struggling with wallpaper doesn’t give you the right to bring everyone else down.

Brennaman: Auburn 21, Penn State 17

If Beaver Stadium opens to fans at full capacity this fall then the Tigers will have one heck of a road test ahead of them. Penn State started last season 0-5 before miraculously winning four straight to finish the season 4-5. This team will be better next year as they usher in a new OC to rebuild the offense. Their linebacker corps is among the best in the Big Ten but unfortunately their entire defensive line needs to be replaced this spring. I still think Auburn is more talented than Penn State which is why I’m giving the good guys the edge here.

McCarthy: Penn State 28, Auburn 23

Auburn has a new coaching staff and Penn State started last year 0-5 before going 4-0 to close the season. I’m going with the home team, but this game is certainly winnable.

Stultz: Penn State 27, Auburn 20
I’m not trusting Bo Nix on the road until he proves he can win a big one. He has yet to do that.

Yes but they are recruiting much better this year

That schedule is not exactly a walk in the park.

I don't know, last year was so bizarre and bad that I'm still hung over from it. The devastating loss to open the year that sent the team into a tailspin...for the first time in CJF's tenure, some hints of issues in the locker room...a sense of disengagement at times on CJF's part as well -- also totally uncharacteristic for him. Against that background, it's hard to feel super confident about 2021, especially with Covid still out there and hanging over the sport.

Still, they say hope springs eternal, and on paper at least it would seem the potential is there for a top-15 finish or even better. The DL needs to be retooled, so that's a question mark in my mind, which should be answered pretty quickly against Wisconsin. However, the other units, including the skill positions on offense, look to be in pretty good shape. I think Noah Cain's status is critical. If he's finally healthy and able to play at the level he did before getting hurt in 2019, it would be a huge boost.

Bottom line: realistically, I think 9-3 would be an excellent year, and that's what I'm (optimistically) predicting. I'd be thrilled with anything better than that but not shocked if it's worse.

Fortunately for whatever 5* wins their QB battle, he’ll have the best WR group in the country and a top-3 OL. OSU’s potential weakness is the secondary and LB group. Very talented but inexperienced.

If Clifford puts it together, PSU has the weapons to throw the ball and challenge OSU. IU laid out the blueprint last year.

I’d go with 9-3. Losses @ Wisky and OSU, and one other (@ Iowa?). Though I honestly don’t know what to expect on opening weekend.

Losses to Wisconsin, Iowa, and OSU
I think we lose to Auburn also, so going with 8-4. Losses will be close, and no blowouts. I do think we hammer Indiana, as after totally dominating them last year and losing on a series of flukes led to a blownup season - our team will be focused on that game.

He really did leave us too soon. 😢

Personally, I don't think 2020 was a fluke as I predicted a .500ish season before covid hit. We are in a period of transition, the transfer portal is gutting our depth and recruiting hasn't been as good as advertised for several years. The defensive line might be hitting rock bottom in 2021. The offense rebounds with a simpler system more suited to a quick uptake but the inherent flaws remain and won't be able to carry the team against opponents that take away the big play. The defense takes another step back. The scheduling gods did us no favors with a frontloaded slate which limits in season adjustments leading to a 2 and 5 start. Down the stretch, things get dicey. Do they finish out strong or do the collapse? I could see it going either way. Absolute worse case, I can honestly see 4 and 8 if we had a few key players get injured. Absolute best case, flip it around for 8 and 4. I'll go somewhere in between.

Wisconsin 32, Penn State 17
Penn State 24, Ball State 17
Auburn 21, Penn State 20
Penn State 52, Villanova 12
Indiana 34, Penn State 21
Iowa 28, Penn State 12
Penn State 34, Illinois 10
Ohio State 42, Penn State 27
Maryland 24, Penn State 21
Penn State 17, Michigan 12
Penn State 23, Rutgers 10
Penn State 17, Michigan State 16

I think Penn State beats Auburn. Bo Nix is the SEC version of Clifford, and with a new coach and first test of the season on the road, I think Penn State will be the more prepared team. Even if we lose to Wisconsin, I don’t think the team will let that bring them down like the Indiana game did last season.

If Roberson wins the starting QB job and plays like Justin Fields Jr., then I think we go 11-1. Otherwise, we end up 9-3 at best. Clifford is never going to get us to the next level.

I don't get why so many people are predicting a loss to Auburn. Of course no game is a sure victory but it's not as if they're Alabama. They lost five games last season including a bowl ass kicking at the hands of Northwestern.

I have 9-3, floor is 8-4, ceiling could be 11-1 but I think this team has too many questions right now for me to go there. I don't think they get out of September unscathed
