In previous years espn would announce all the night games well in advance. For this season, they have only announced the night games for the first few weeks. The Pitt and Illinois games are the only night games announced so far. When will we find out if Penn State has more night games?

This changed last year when Fox got in the mix for games. Games are usually now announced in the 6/12 day window based on who has the #1 pick of games each week. Even night games.

OSU will be ABC. Possible Iowa, too, since ABC has a night game slot for Big Ten games and the only other tangible game that week is WIsky@NW

I’d say there’s a better than 50% chance PennState @ Michigan is at night. The AD usually lets the UM hospital and campus police know in advance which games are “likely” to be at night - and they’ve informed them Penn State is one of those this year.

Well, if it is a night game, that obviously makes the two tough road trips on the schedule stand with a bit more clout, VS them being kicked off at Noon. If the Nits could get Night-victories over the Skunkbears and the mustard looking ketchup stadium, we take care of business at home... There's no way we don't roll into Indy.... Hell I could see if running the table at home, and losing those two game AND still heading to Indy.... Didn't something similar to that happen recently??

I would bet money that OSU is going to be a night game in Happy Valley.

If the history of kickoff times means anything.... here's some data dating back to 2000.

Ohio State (Ohio State leads 14-18)

I have a feeling Penn State announced Ohio State as the Whiteout game when they did (early spring), in hopes of locking up a primetime spot.

Biggest question will be, who carries the game? FOX or ABC/ESPN? I'd love to have Gus Johnson and Joel Klatt get this one. Herbie has been good to us, but over the past two years Joel Klatt, in my mind has been the best analyst in College Football. Would love to see him visit the Beav, (Has he ever been?)

2000 - 7:00 - WIN - AWAY

Iowa (Penn State leads 15-12)
2018 - 7-8PM? (Only reason I could see this being an earlier kick is simply due to the fact of having so many away night games already on the schedule. I'd definitely prefer 3:30 or later though, since 2000, we've never beaten Iowa when kicking off against them at noon.

2017 - 7:30 - WIN - AWAY
2016 - 7:30 - WIN - HOME
2012 - 8:00 - WIN - AWAY (Iowa 2012 or UM 13 have to be considered O’Brien’s signature W’s)

MICHIGAN (In a series of streaks, Here's hoping Penn State's builds on 2017's win)

2018.....3:30 OR 7-8PM? - This game was oddly scheduled at noon in 2015, but that was also before Penn State had surged back into the national spotlight. With what I read in another thread, it appears Michigan is planning to get this matchup scheduled at night.

Which I think would be a great challenge for State, with our veteran QB. I can't think of another College football night game scene (Besides the WhiteOut of course) that is even remotely as eye opening as Michigan's Maize out. A road Victory over the Wolverines in an environment like this:

...would do wonders for State's national perception, getting two prime time victories over "rivals" on the road. (Pitt & Mich)

2018 - Early signs indicate this will likely be a night game - I could also see a quirky kickoff time with this one too... (Like ND in 2007 6pm or Ohio State in 2012 5:30)

2017 - 7:30 - WIN - HOME
2016 - 3:30 - LOSS - AWAY
2015 - 12:00 - LOSS - HOME
2014 - 7:00 - LOSS - AWAY

2013 - 5:30 - WIN - HOME
2010 - 8:00 - WIN - HOME
2009 - 3:30 - WIN - AWAY
2008 - 4:30 - WIN - HOME

2007 - 3:30 - LOSS - AWAY
2006 - 8:00 - LOSS - HOME
2005 - 3:30 - LOSS - AWAY
2002 - 3:30 - LOSS - AWAY
2001 - 3:30 - LOSS - HOME
2000 - 12:00 - LOSS - AWAY

Wisconsin (Penn State riding 3 game winning streak)

Of all the games yet to be announced, Wisky is the trickiest game to predict.

I highly doubt that when Bucky travels to Beaver Stadium there won't be huge implications riding on the outcome of the game, which tends to slot the kickoff as either late afternoon or at night. This bodes well for Penn State. Wisconsin should control the West, and even with a Penn State loss in the East prior to the matchup, a Victory over Wisconsin will confirm the Eastern supremacy in the conference and will still have huge implications on the Natty title picture.

Looking back at all 18 matchups, (I decided to compare all matchups given the series is tied at 9 a piece)

Penn State has struggled in early games, with the Badgers posting a 5-0 record when the kick is at 12:00 or 1pm. On the other hand, Penn State has fared far better at games 3-3:30; posting a 7-1 record in mid afternoon matchups.

At night The Nits have taken care of business at night (8pm) taking both prime time games, but have struggled in late afternoon matchups starting at the rare kickoff times of 5:45. 0-2.

2018 - Fingers crossed for 3:30 or 7-8PM - If I had to bet, I'd put money on 3:30, could also see this being a nooner.

2016 - 8:00 - WIN - NEUTRAL
2013 - 3:30 - WIN - AWAY

2012 - 3:30 - WIN - HOME
2011 - 3:30 - LOSS - AWAY
2008 - 8:00 - WIN - AWAY
2007 - 3:30 - WIN - HOME

2006 -12:00 - LOSS - AWAY
2005 - 3:30 - WIN - HOME
2004 - 5:45 - LOSS - AWAY
2003 - 12:00 - LOSS - HOME

2002 - 3:30 - WIN - AWAY
2001 - 12:00 - LOSS - HOME
1998 - 3:00 - LOSS - AWAY

1997 - 3:30 - WIN - HOME
1996 - 3:30 - WIN - AWAY

1995 - 5:45 - LOSS - HOME
1970 - (Not Sure Kickoff time Assuming 1PM) - LOSS - AWAY
1953 - ("") - LOSS - AWAY

Rutgers

Yawn, whatever, who cares

Something tells me BTN will snag this one and either make it a night game, or a nooner.

-----------------------------------

Maryland

Yawn, whatever, who cares.

Most likely 3:30... "The Game" will get the noon slot, which has lead Penn State's matchup during the season finale to get the nod for 3:30.
