Sorry if already posted, but some commentary from the BIG referees who screwed the pooch in last years Penn State vs. Ohio State game. Pretty weak if you ask me. Two huge calls that were blatantly incorrect, with even indisputable replay unable to rectify (we've seen this before). How about the BS launching call in OT ? Guess they weren't asked about that one. LOL.

Corollos comments would be better accepted if these "things" don't happen on a yearly basis against OSU and UM.

When was the last time OSU got screwed by the officials?

Would like to have also hear why OSU wasn't flagged for a single holding call during conference play last year.

Same official that missed the play clock at zero also missed tOSU with 12 men on the field on the 4th qtr. PSU FG attempt where UM said he didn't call TO. They should have been flagged with 12 men on the field as Ficken was lined up for the equalizing FG. It seems as though that official can't count or watch the play clock successfully. The rule is below:

"Team B is allowed to briefly retain more than 11 players on the field to anticipate the offensive formation, but it may not have more than 11 players in its formation if the snap is imminent. Whether the snap is imminent or has just occurred, the officials shall stop the action. (A.R. 3-5-3-IV)"

The problem is that officials who make such blatant and horrible "mistakes" and calls are never removed. They stay as if nothing happened. The conference has the worst officiating in D1 and will remain that way as officials are never held to account.

They won't stick their heads out in the rain and look at the scoreboard replay. "it's unprofessional".Apparently their lack of skills is professional.

Carollo called the meeting — which he does with every Big Ten coaching staff — productive, saying it helped close the book on that game. Franklin said that his staff discussed a variety of topics but wouldn't get into specifics about the Ohio State game.

Translation: Carollo advised Franklin and the rest of the staff not to get "uppity" and "deal with it, good teams overcome bad calls. You're lucky you're even playing."

RIght, they're great at crying about how hard of a job they have after they puke up another absurd choke call in a key situation which crushes a critical PSU drive or possession against a top opponent. Guess what, everybody has a hard job. If you can't do it, GTFO. It's a hard job as a fan watching you idiots drool all over yourselves every week and then cry about how bad you have it.

Which is hard to believe, and dangerous, (e.g., the lack of accountability or consequences) due to the level of gambling that takes place on College Football. Absolutely absurd that the b1g turd is completely nonchalant about the "integrity" of the game and officiating. People who tell you that they can distinguish between "incompetence" and "intentional incompetence" (e.g., bad calls due to an inherent bias or Cheating to an agenda) are full of $hit -- and you can ask the people involved in the Boston College cheating and point-shaving scandal. Having zero accountability for this level absurdity is an invitation for the mob to use the the conference as a $$$ printing press via rigging, payoffs and a compliant conference that does not penalize absurdity (e.g., a perfect situation for them to use as a playground) - the b1g turd should know because they had an official who had gambling ties but they didn't get rid of him until after investigators identified concerning ties.

I bet they get that one right this year for tOSU against Penn State! And all will be well!

Exactly - it's really hard on this fan as I grind my teeth after a classic Witvoet SH-tshow. If I'm a bench rider and he did that to my team, I trade getting kicked off the team by planting his ass.

Didn't the Big 10 have a ref with one working eye that everyone knew about but he stayed employed until someone at Michigan got pissed at him - then, boom, he was gone.

^^ Good lord, how'd I miss that story??

Big Ten ref's checkered background scares fellow officials

When the phone started ringing and the e-mails began pouring into his inbox Wednesday morning, Barry Mano knew the news had finally spread. Four months after NBA official Tim Donaghy pleaded guilty to betting on NBA games -- including games he officiated -- another scandal had rocked the officiating world.

A Yahoo! Sports investigation revealed that Big Ten referee Stephen Pamon, a crew chief who has worked for the conference since 1988, has a checkered history of bankruptcy, casino gambling, child abuse and allegations of sexual harassment.

The story detailed how Pamon and his wife filed for bankruptcy in 2002 after amassing over $400,000 in debt, an amount that Pamon's sister-in-law told Yahoo! Sports was in part because of gambling losses. In addition, the story said, Pamon had been accused of beating three of his then-girlfriend's four sons in 1997 and sexually assaulting one of his former wives' nieces. In 1996, he was fired by the Chicago Police Department after two female officers accused him of sexual harassment.

And this league- the big ten- decided to go out of the way to pile on extra penalties on PSU above the NCAA when they had this in their background? Holy God were Erickson and the PSU administration beyond incompetent.

You're forgetting the Bosa face mask that ripped Christian's helmet off his head too! No need for a replay when obvious calls should be made on the field without any biases.

"They" are just amazingly incompetent. I also think quite a number of them "look to make bad or non calls that hurt PSU". That has been going on since we joined this lame ass conference :)

Carollo isn't manning up by admitting to obvious mistakes. He acts as though he's doing something courageous. Manning up is admitting to a mistake nobody was aware of. He simply blows off the ignored delay of game penalty as human error. On a field goal try there are two officials posted under the goal posts. The only responsibilities they have in that situation are counting players and looking at the play clock. It wasn't a situation where there was a fast pace of play and the officials were sprinting to improve their positions on the field. They were just standing there.
