Nick Saban‘s Alabama continues to rack up milestone after milestone. The Crimson Tide are already on a record streak of 11 consecutive seasons with at least one AP No. 1 ranking. They hit win No. 900 a week ago. They’re on record streaks as favorites and wins over unranked opponents.

But on Sunday, with yet another unanimous No. 1 ranking, Alabama hit a milestone that seemed unfathomable. According to SEC Network, Alabama has spent 79 weeks as the AP No. 1 since 2009, which is equal to the number by the rest of the sport combined

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama football program is among seven recipients of the 2017 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Academic Achievement Award, the association announced Thursday. The award is the first for Alabama.

Alabama is one of seven programs that recorded a 100-percent graduation rate for members of its 2010 freshman football class. Joining the Tide this year are Cincinnati, Middle Tennessee, Northwestern, Utah, Utah State and Virginia.

The Academic Achievement Award is presented annually to the school or schools with the highest score in the NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR) and a federal graduation rate of 75 percent or higher.

The GSR is based on a six-year graduation window for student-athletes and was developed by the NCAA as part of its academic reform initiative to more accurately assess the academic success of student-athletes. The GSR holds institutions accountable for transfer students, unlike the federal graduation rate. The GSR also accounts for midyear enrollees.

The Academic Achievement Award was created by the College Football Association (CFA) in 1981 and presented by that organization until its dissolution in 1997. The AFCA has presented the award since 1998.

Biggest reason why college football is a bore after the regular season

#1 in recruiting, #1 in rankings...not a shock. Saban takes full advantage of the talent that he brings in.

End of the year at #1 is an impressive stat.

"Number of weeks at #1" is not.
Maybe the number of weeks our program (or frankly, any B1G program) has been #1 in this century isn't. But the number of weeks Bama has (even just since 2009) is among the more impressive I've seen in recent memory. I guess we'll just agree to disagree.
