FC remember Derrick Thomas?? Played DB, IIRC Joe (?) ran him off

That's what happens when you recruit a DB who's less than a foot tall.

BTW, look who else recruited him.

Yeah, I wasn't pointing out that Larry Johnson recruited him. That was pretty standard for the time and LJ is no longer at PSU.

Seems Larry Johnson was responsible for recruiting most of our players from that time period. It was either him or Bradley.

Not surprising since most of our vaunted Offensive staff spent recruiting season snoozing in their rocking chairs...

for something, he came down here to Marshall, and Moo Moo Smith was here at the same time.

Anyway seems like he got himself in some big trouble down here. Heroin and weapons it seems.

FWIW - he was part of the Bill O purge during his first year at PSU

IIRC, some of the guys that Bill O cut loose - in relatively short order:

D Thomas and a chunk of other "problem children" - - - Devon Smith, Kersey, Curtis Drake, Oakman

Also weeded out, to some extent, Alex Kenney, Paul Jones, and maybe Curtis Dukes (IIRC). Maybe even Bolden - though he may have already been gone when Bill came in, certainly had at least one foot out the door at least.

Proved to be a smart move by Bill O - - really cleaned out the litter, and he didn't have any significant nonsense to deal with during the rest of his tenure
Things had been getting kinda "loose" before Bill O arrived. Thus far, it looks like CJF has the same approach - trim out any problem children before they can fester

You are correct.

The super Maryland class had quite a few "questionable" recruits. I think it was an effort to be more like the OSUs of the world (see Paul Horning and ND). For me you have to be who you are OR you are no one !!!
