And the games are all played with an unsurpassed level of passion, intensity, and desperation. In the end, if you can't accept this fact to serve as a sufficiently redeeming feature of the system, then it's time to give up the sport.

Look, I've seen the ugliness in the system and I've got no illusions that this can ever be cleaned up. I grew up on college basketball, my foremost passion, and now the level of hypocrisy and sordidness is such that I tried to give it up, it didn't take. Why? It has to be because of the players.

shouldn't we want to see student-athletes get a real education, be well-rounded and responsible members of society? Isn't that more important than just playing ball.
