Talk about a "Period Piece".....my goodness, every time I hear that guitar sequence to start the song I am immediately transported (flash backed) to that time.....incense and black-lights anyone? LOL
Kinda takes things full circle for me, as my first concert at PSU was Belly at Crowbar a few weeks into my freshman year…first of a lot of great concerts I saw up there over my four years, though Crowbar was always my favorite venue.
The song I'm posting has the opposite theme of Goodbye but I'm posting it anyway. Todd Rundgren is finally being put into the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland tomorrow. He's not going to be there though, but he'll be doing a concert in another city in Ohio.
I didn't know until recently that Hello, It's Me is the first song he ever wrote. It was the B-side on a single by Nazz (a group TR was in in the late 1960s) but it still got some airplay. It was slower than the version most people know. A few years later, in 1972 or so, he released the faster version and it became a big hit.
Here are both versions. First, the older, slower version.
