Wrestling Dual Thread: Penn State vs. Indiana

Hmm. They both looked really good Friday night. Hopefully, just precaution and nothing big.
I agree, actually JB didn’t actually give a reason for RBY but then he said Nick was “also” feeling under the weather, as in along with RBY, but I could be making a correlation that doesn’t exist.

3-3 ed Scott vs Monday going int to 3rd.. Scott takes bottom

Escape and TD.. 6-3 Scott

6-4 Scott wins

Damn, first it was the Norovirus, now it's Omicron.

125 Hildebrandt vs #25 Moran

no action thru a minute. Some collar ties; some hand fighting. Mostly facing each other with space. Moran shoots with 1:20 to go; no dice. Quick stalemate. Hildebrandt with a deep single to a LONG scramble that Hildebrandt ultimately finishes with 0:20 to go. 2-0 after one. About 20 secs RT.

Moran chooses bottom to start 2nd. 5 second reversal. 2-2. Escape 10 secs later. 3-2 good guys (despite what screen says). Collar ties. Not a lot of action. Period ends 3-2 good guys with 15 secs RT.

Hildebrandt chooses bottom. Standing switch to behind him to a reversal. Maybe 12 secs ish. 5-2 good guys. 1:38 to go. Checking clock or video. Was close to escape and TD. might be checking that. Long break. Stays 5-2. Hildebrandt riding. Moran got to feet but Hildebrandt gets mat return and then double boots. Moran flattened out. Hildebrandt riding hard. Very physical. Finishes with Hildebrandt on top. 6-2 final with RT.

Are Shunk and Meredith the only real options at 133 and 141? Sounds like there is a lack of depth at both those weights. Backups at lower weights going to higher weights rarely bodes well.

133 Shunk vs #19 Hudkins

Hudkins with front headlock; tries for near side cradle but settles for early TD. Hudkins riding, then gets himself in trouble and Shunk ultimately gets escape when Hudkins has to bail to avoid going to his back. 2-1 now. Hudkins gets second TD with 1:05 to go. Shunk to his feet and out 20 secs later. 4-2 bad guys. Hudkins another TD with about 15 secs to go. 6-2 bad guys after one with 1:11 RT.

Hudkins chooses bottom. Roll and quick reversal. 8-2 bad guys. Hudkins gets turk and cross face. Turns Shunk. Shunk on his back for quite awhile but manages to get back to his stomach. 12-3 now. Hukins turns him again for 4 more but then Shunk gets to his feet and out. Period ends with Shunk trying for single leg. 16-3 after two.

Shunk starts 3rd on bottom. Hudkins gets a short turn and that does it. TF for Hudkins.

5-3 Idaho :) after two matches

I definitely prefer when they just wrestle these matches with no breaks in between.

Rooks was a previous year NQ and 9-4 this year. Wouldn't expect a backup 133 who was trying to descend to 125 at one point this year to be super competitive with him.

8-3 after first three is not a normal situation for us, lol, we will make it up though.

141 Meredith vs #26 Rooks

Rooks aggressive early with a couple of shots but Meredith stuffs them. Meredith then in on a single. Trying to finish. Meredith in deep…. And gets the TD 1:05 in. Rooks quick escape. 2-1 good guys. Rooks shoots and Meredith with another good reshot but no dice. Rooks gets a quick deep shot and finish about 45 secs to go. 3-2 bad guys. Rooks gets a little sloppy with legs but Meredith can’t quite capitalize before period ends. 3-2 bad guys after one.

Rooks chooses bottom. Rooks up to his feet and returned. Rooks up again and gets escape about 25 secs in. 4-2 bad guys. Rooks in deep on a single with 50 secs to go. Meredith trying to defend but rooks gets the TD with about 30 secs to go. 6-2 bad guys. Period ends 6-2 Rooks.

Meredith chooses bottom to start 3rd. To his feet and then down to sit out position. Rooks works him back to base then throws in a leg. Not really doing anything with the leg and finally cuts Meredith. 6-3 bad guys. RT clinched. Rooks shoots…. and finishes. 8-3. Cuts Meredith. 8-4. Rooks shoots and Meredith reshoots. Ends with no TD. 9-4 with RT.

8-3 bad guys after three matches.

Graham Rooks is the first 149 that I didn't think looked bigger than Beau

149 BB vs other Rooks

BB working a front headlock… let’s it go. Then has it again… nothing. OOB. 1:55 to go on restart. Rooks in a single… BB defends… long scramble that BB ultimately wins on physicality. 2-0 BB. BB now riding and cuts him after 15-20 secs. 2-1 BB. 45 secs to go in first. Rooks deep single with 10 secs to go, BB defends and period ends. 2-1 good guys.

Rooks chooses bottom. Rooks rolls, gets to his feet and gets an early escape. 2-2. Stalemate in standing tie-up. Restart. Collar ties. 1 min to go. Mostly head to head collar ties. Rooks shoots but easily stuffed by BB. 20 secs to go. Rooks takes a sloppy shot and BB spins behind - literally - with 2 secs to go for the TD! 4-2 good guys as period ends.

BB chooses bottom and is quickly out. 5-2 good guys. Head to head.. Rooks shoots a double, BB stuffs it and again in standing front headlock. Stalemate. Rooks on on single and gets TD. Immediately cuts him and it ends in neutral. 6-4 BB decision.

8-6 Indiana is the dual score
