Donovan Ball out of Cedar Cliff commits

Ball lost in the PA States 182 lbs. 3A quarterfinals to Josh Stillings (Pennridge), 8-1. Stillings went on to win the 182 3A Championship. That put Ball in the Consolations. In R3 Consys, he defeated Blake Barrick (Big Spring), 4-2, UTB. In R4 Coneys (quarters), Ball fell to Max Shaw (Thomas Jefferson), 5-1. That put Ball into the 5th place match, where he defeated Josh Krieger (Shilkellamy), 5-3. The place winners at 182 3A were:

1. Joshua Stillings (Pennridge)
2. Tim Wallace (Albert Gallatin)
3. Max Shaw (Thomas Jefferson)
4. Christian Sequete (Butler)
5. Donovan Ball (Cedar Cliff)
6. Josh Krieger (Shikellamy)
7. Brendan Shaker (Lower Dauphin)
8. Mason McCready (Hollidaysburg)

Shaw, Ball, and McCready were the only underclassmen (all juniors).

Has made significant strides in HS:
FR 16-15
SO 28-8, 5th Regionals, DNQ States
JR 41-8, 2nd Regionals, 5th States

Has a chance to reach the state finals this year, depending on how the weights shake out. (Urbas, Ruth, and maybe Nichter are too much. Lost to Shaw 5-1. Joll and Crosby could be tough. Hale is a toss-up.)

Had some good barometer matches -- beat Barrick 2x, lost to Stillings 6-4 in the regular season, lost to Hale (170-6th) 10-9, beat Koser (195-3rd) 4-3, beat McCready at states. All are D1 wrestlers or commits except Hale, who is now a JR.

So he looks like quality depth -- unlikely to upend Brooks or Beard, but could push them in the room and step in for a couple matches if needed.

Good news for the program and for Donovan. Tim Haas and Steve Sefter are notable Cedar Cliff Colts who wrestled for PSU.
