Yea, sorry wasn't suggesting anything else. As a 5 star kids that's been the plan and his goal. I see no way he comes back regardless if he's a projected 3rd day or 1st day pick.

Thanks, got it.

That's my point. You don't want to leave scholarships on the table in a recruiting class. Especially if your CJF and you're red hot right now. As much as CJF wants to control everything, you don't know for sure if your calculations will be right. And sometimes when you're wrong you end up being committed to 87 scholarships when you have 85. Then you have to have unpleasant conversations with some kids. I don't know what is said in those conversations specifically, but when you see that a program is committed to 87 scholarships and then two guys announce they are leaving the program you start to connect the dots.

And maybe some more guys leave, too. And maybe those guys didn't have unpleasant conversations.

Timing can indicate when there may have been a "conversation" but it's hardly perfect. Sometimes there are rumblings, but who knows if that's any better.

It's been suggested to do away with the overall limit and just permit schools to take a fixed maximum every year. That option sounds better and better.

Bingo!

In about 30 seconds the NCAA could actually do something that makes sense.

Been advocating that for years (of course, any opinion that is created solely from the standpoint of creating a logical construct, congruent with the Missions blathered on about in the NCAA PR statements, has little chance of being heard) - and it is incredibly simple and logical.... and would actually act to put "the STUDENT part of Student-Athlete first"....

Which means, of course, the NCAA and the $$$$ Coaches would fight it tooth and nail. :)

Doubt that the coaches would care much They don't have P&L responsibility for their programs and, worst case, they wind up with more blocking and tackling dummies. ADs would shit.

True.... but lets say you set a annual limit of 25 (just for the sake of argument)……..

Now, a guy like say, Urby or Saban, if their guys are all going "pro" in three years - - - - has 75 total guys on scholarship each year (maybe less - if they also have some convicts and drop outs)...

And another guy - one who tends to rely more on "development", lets say a Fitzgerald, could conceivably have 125 on scholarship....... 25 who are red-shirting, and 100 who are gameday eligible.

Obviously, it would never get THAT extreme...… but one could imagine a scenario where a Northwestern could have 100 total scholarship guys (many of them redshirting), and an Alabama would have maybe 80 (with only a handful redshirting) - - - - at any one moment.
All of that would, of course, be good for the "STUDENTS" (more kids getting scholarships - depending on where you set the annual limit, kids would never get "run-off", it would tend to increase red-shirting and legit academics, etc)
But, that kind of thing could significantly reduce the advantage over the years for a Saban vs a Fitzgerald.

You think Saban (or Urby or whomever) would be OK with that? :)

Maybe not, but life sucks and then you die. Nick Lou and Urbs will just have to adjust.
