Contract extensions

Relocation, expansion, or completely new practice facility has been discussed according to my UN-named contact.
2017 I saw a Penn State sports facility master plan where an Olympic sports facility was proposed to be adjacent and south of the BJC. Then, it looked to me to target volleyball and gymnastics in addition to wrestling. It's still in the 2019 revision here:

More recently, and post Covid financial strains, I saw a proposal to upgrade Rec Hall, which appeared to include a glassed in lounge area on the west side of the gym.

Bottom line: stuff has been talked about for some time, money is needed for any of it, and who really knows what will actually happen when.

Barring a big donor, like Pegula, for hockey, where the funds are targeted, I don't see a new wrestling facility any time soon.

Then it's gonna be a while, because apparently they can't afford the "e" at the end of Lacross.

Terry and Kim are big fans of PSU wrestling.

They were in Pittsburgh to watch NCAAs.

Where would they have that kinda room?
Looking at the migration of Athletic facilities over the past 20 years …. it all points east. The 2017 Facilities Master Plan was pretty much an academic exercise. (Big hat … no cattle). Five years on we see no material changes. With a new Prez & AD; we may see some changes especially in light of the new BIG media contract.
Also … I’m still hearing chatter about seat licenses for wrestling. We old timers will bitch & moan, but, there are golden gooses to be killed.

Honestly if anything, I think NIL donations and freedom should be the focus of the next decade if anything. I don't think Lorenzo holds us back right now, definitely need to renovate as needed.

Going by tickets sold and season ticket waiting lists, it prob makes the the most sense to move basketball to Rec Center and wrestling to BJC.
The University has to rent the BJC to hold events in it. My late parents back in the day donated money to PSU to help build the BJC. Crazy to pay rent if PSU alumni and donors paid to build it.

Wasn't BJC owned by a "private share company from another country"?

No. BJC is and has always been owned by, and run by, PSU.

BJC is not run by the Athletics Dept. It's run by the PSU Auxiliary & Business Services dept.

Men's and women's hoops get free usage. Everybody else in Athletics pays.

That's the deal with the devil PSU made to get funding from Harrisburg to build BJC.

He deserves every penny. But if they don't take care of the staff as well as HCs at other schools they are just silly.

Pay the staff and we keep the rings coming
It seems that whenever Cael is negotiating a big deal, he's never worried about his own salary. He seems very happy with how he personally is compensated. It's always making sure Casey, Cody and all his support staff (Adam, Dan Monthley obviously) are paid very well. Obviously also making sure commitments are made to invest in the program as well.

Iowa fundraised 25 million for their facilities pretty quickly. I don't believe they have many heavy hitter donors (none like Ira Lubert or Galen Dreibelbis) Their endowment for HWC is always well under 1M (until recently someone left 1M in his will to HWC) I don't think raising the funds would be the challenge, it's the red tape of where to put it tbh. Heck in 2006, Ira paid for most of the best facilities at the time himself (and this was 3 years before Cael was even hired)

...Since Ira is building a casino between State College and Bellefonte there should be a continuing source of funds for wrestling facilities...maybe a new 10,000 - 12,000 person arena for wrestling, etc., etc....

I thought that money went to paying their wrestlers to not compete after graduation.

Absolutely nothing in that article says he signed, except the clickbait headline.

More likely they've reached a handshake deal that maybe requires approval from the compensation committee, or includes some terms (facilities?) that require additional fundraising.

BTW, that article is a case lesson in bad journalism. The Pittsburgh Post Gazette has not reported anything, by online article or tweet. The source is another Collegian reporter's tweet. And the article extrapolated a final result that will likely come true but has not yet been confirmed.

I know I was supposed to take that pitch but the hanging curve was just too juicy.

He's officially an insider on inside jokes.
Time to move JohnstownSteel to the HR full time.
