Of course the best-of-three B1G quarterfinals start tonight - Wisconsin (7) @ Ohio State (2), Michigan State (6) @ Michigan (3), and Notre Dame (5) @ Minnesota (4). It seems almost impossible to pick a favorite in any of these three series. Maybe Michigan. Wisconsin-Ohio State of course is a replay of last weekend, where the Badgers got hot and helped keep the Buckeyes to a single point and keep PSU in 1st.

Not that it matters, but who would PSU prefer to draw out of this group for the semi, with the 4 through 7 seeds being options? Any of the matchups would be tough, especially as the opponent would likely have no path to the NCAAs other than as an AQ. Also have to be concerned how the three-week layoff will impact the Lions; hopefully it sees a well-rested and motivated PSU squad versus a rusty team that needs a period or two to get back up to game speed! Perhaps in order:
- PSU went 3-0-1-1 versus Minnesota, but the Gophers have been hot in 2020 (despite the last two weekends) and I could see them being overly motivated in a semi given the regular season. Drawing the Gophers also requires all chalk results, given that Minnesota is the 4 seed (and PSU will host the lowest remaining seed).
- PSU went 2-2 versus MSU. Might put the Spartans over Minnesota in order of preference!
- PSU went 3-1 versus Wisconsin, but they seem to be surging (especially if they best OSU this weekend!).
- PSU went 1-2-1-0 versus Notre Dame and Morris seemed to have figured out things for them between the pipes.

In other action, St. Cloud (22) is at Duluth (5) [NCHC starts their tourney next weekend]. Bemidji State (10) doesn't have a tough draw in their first-round WCHA quarterfinal games this weekend, but it might be worth keeping an eye on them as they seem to be a favorite to be PSU's draw in the NCAA semiregional. Not seeing much else of interest, but there is sure to be an upset or two!

And as I sit here listening to the Wisconsin feed (waiting for my kid to finish a rehearsal!), OSU takes a 1-0 lead following a Wisconsin PP halfway through the 1st. Smaller crowd at OSU's rink, per the PxP guy.

Now 3-0 OSU shortly after the start of the 2nd. Wisconsin will have to stage a comeback like they did on Saturday, when they also fell behind 0-3 and tied the game.
Michigan leading MSU 1-0 end of 1st. Scored on a PP goal.

Goalie switch for Wisconsin as they go down 0-4. OSU's Carson Meyer with a hat trick already, having scored the last three goals! Only 5 minutes into the 2nd.
Michigan up 2-0.

I'm outta here - kid is done with rehearsal, lol. Will post final scores later if no one else does.

Don’t want to see ND. Morris seems to play tougher against us in net than he does other B1G teams.

Michigan is tough matchup for us as well.

No easy teams in B1G, however those are two I would like to avoid.

OSU bitchslapping Wisky, 9-0
Looks like OSU won 9-1 (!), Michigan up 3-0 late 3rd, and ND just took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd off of a 5-minute major.

Michigan won 3-0. I guess ND did not score on the PP, but scored near end of 2nd. Still 1-0 and Minnesota just competed a 5-minute major PP but couldn't score. About 3 minutes left in 3rd.

St. Cloud did lead Duluth (5) last night 1-0, but ended up losing 4-1. Bemidji State had no problems in their game. Two surprises were Omaha upsetting NDk (1) 4-1 and Colorado College tying Denver (6). Based on the PPM, it looks like the chances of PSU overtaking either of these two teams is slim to none (too lazy to use the PWR calculator!).

Still don't know what the heck happened to the Badgers last night! They went through all three goalies, but nothing made much of a difference. Might be easier for them to throw away that game versus a close loss. Michigan had a solid win and the ND-Minnesota game was a good ol' defensive struggle. Will be interesting to see tonight's results!

^ Only 9% chance PSU can get up to 6.
7 - 26%
8 - 30%
9 - 24%
10 - 8%

I just don’t want to see guys fall to a 3 seed.

Mass, Clarkson, Ohio State, Bemidji State really only teams that can take a 2 from us.

Day 2
Wisconsin @ OSU going to OT. Both teams scored on PP in 2nd. OSU had a PP for 2 of the last 3 minutes and Wisconsin almost got a shorty.
OSU wins it about a minute in on a mishandled puck by Wisconsin goalie Berry.
***Semifinal 2: Michigan (3) @ Ohio State (2). Game apparently is Sunday, 3/15.

Michigan up 2-0 over MSU with about 2 minutes to go. Wolverines look to advance.
3-0 with 45 seconds left. Assuming an EN goal.

Minnesota up 1-0 over ND towards end of 2nd.
Minnesota goes up 2-0 early 3rd. Scored on ND's 1st line.
Minnesota holds on to win 2-1. ND got a PP goal with about 10 minutes left. Going to the rubber match tomorrow night - winner heads to Hockey Valley next weekend!

Day 3
Minnesota and ND in a defensive struggle. Both goalies playing very well. ND just scored early 2nd to make it 1-0: they converted a Gopher 3-on-2 opportunity into a 2-on-goalie for a score.
...and, just like that, Minnesota scores back-to-back goals 47 seconds apart, making it 2-1 Minnesota!
...Minnesota with a 5-on-3 PP for 5 minutes (might be a major and a minor) with about 5 minutes left in 2nd.
...Minnesota scores with 7 seconds left on the minor. Still 3 minutes on the major. 3-1 Minnesota. And it sounds like offsetting minors right afterwards.
...ND scores on a PP about halfway through the 3rd. 3-2 Minnesota.
...Minnesota holds on to win 3-2.
*** Semifinal - Minnesota @ PSU.

Bemidji State up 1-0 over LSSU, also early 2nd.
Bemidji State up 2-0 late 2nd.
Bemidji State up 2-1 about 15 minutes left in 3rd.
Still 2-1 about 6 minutes left.
3-1 final.

Bobby Mo (past PSU opponent this season) up 1-0 over Holy Cross in Game of their AH quarterfinal. Mid 2nd.
Now 3-0 early 3rd.
5-0 late 3rd.
5-1 final.

Who the hell came up with the term "social distancing" because that's a really stupid term to describe keeping your physical distance.

Social distancing is deleting your twitter and facebook accounts and not responding to texts.

Minnesota advances to play PSU. Quite a comeback by the Gophers, both this evening and in the three-game series!

PxP guys saying "no more Death Valley" in central PA, lol. Gophers are going to be tough and have some great momentum going into next weekend. Hoping that history doesn't repeat itself in reverse... 2017 B1G tourney... PSU hadn't beaten the Gophers during the regular season but beat the Gophers to advance to the championship game.

HC Bob Motzko says (paraphrasing) PSU's streak gotta end soon, might as well be next weekend.
