Deaths during this pandemic have been severely skewed towards the 80+ and nursing home populations. If there was any saving grace with the whole NY nursing home death tragedy was it showed the county how not to protect the most venerable.

Not sure why we didn't have the whole nursing home issue figured out say...50 flu seasons ago...Jesus, it has to be borderline criminal.

The United States has 4.2% of the world’s population, but over 25.3% of the infections and 24.4% of the deaths. It is an overwhelming indictment of gross negligence and incompetence

The answer is very simple and it's been an issue for a long time, even before Covid.

Hospital always get concerned that nursing homes will refuse to take their patients back, once med cleared. Nursing homes are always concerned about having patients return that require a skilled nursing facility or short term rehab. Cuomo probably received pressure from hospital execs with concern that they would get caught with thousands of nursing home patients and not have any beds for incoming admissions.

Are you disputing the United States has 4.2% of the world’s population, but over 25.3% of the infections and 24.4% of the deaths?

    Why the disparate percentages?

Because this is the most free country in the world. Sometimes, exercising that freedom puts our lives in danger. Also, we did not protect the elderly like we should have.

Those differentials are due to being a free country?

Hmmm. So we now have “timing” and “free country” as the reasons. Next?

What % of those deaths were from elderly patients in nursing homes in CA, Michigan, PA, NJ, and NY?

Are all of the countries counting deaths as liberally as we are (i.e. do they count presumed deaths or people with the virus who die from something else such as cancer, heart disease, etc.)? That plays a huge role in inflating the numbers for the U.S.

Throw Cuomo and DeBlasio into the mix, and you have a real disaster on your hands. Look at the numbers.

Because as a nation we are pretty GD selfish as compared to other countries. We are a nation divided and it's better to not show weakness than wear a mask and possibly help slow things down.

In fairness, our percentages would likely be in line -- or much more in line -- if China and South Korea actually actually logged their Covid cases and deaths.

Could be. Who knows? Neither Cuomo nor the hospital administrators are likely to admit this if it is true.

Europe's death rate per million population is 2X that of USA even with their great government run healthcare.and they have less infections. Care to comment on that????

New York metro and NJ have 6% of the US population, 20% of the cases and 36% of the deaths. I finally agree with you on something. It IS an overwhelming indictment of gross negligence and incompetence.

I'm surprised that you're so critical of liberal governors of NY, NJ, CT. But now that you mention it, they only represent 10% of the country's population but more than 50% of the Covid deaths.

    Thanks for pointing that out.

Much of the world is isolated with very little travel. They're not nearly as likely to contract the virus.

Much of the world is less developed and does little testing / reporting. Not reporting it doesn't mean they don't have it.

China has more than 20% of the world population and they lie through their teeth.

Do you need any more enlightenment?

When you start a new book, do you always start at page 325? If you flip back to page 1, you’ll recall our stable genius reminding us we have 15 cases, soon to be zero. DJT turned his back on the citizens of this country. The continued daily death toll is a result of his inept leadership. Although, I must say not one of those deaths bothers him.

You don't know what you're talking about. If you don't test for Covid you can't claim was the cause of death.

    Good grief.

This book has had many chapters, one of which was about a mayor who had tremendous resources given to him by a President, yet the mayor ****ed it up beyond belief.
