We did have interest but he wasn't ready yet. Timing is everything in life.

CJF went and saw him play in person last year. PSU made his final list, along with Auburn, Cal, Duke and USC. He was always leaning towards USC. His father went there and he has family down in SC.

So it seems that the reason for him to go down there really hasn't changed (family). So no sense in him re-opening his recruitment.

McIlwain, ranked as the No. 7 dual-threat QB in the nation, has said previously that he is committed to the school and not necessarily the coaching staff who recruited him. McIlwain is also a highly touted baseball player and expected to play for the nationally ranked baseball team.​

He is probably going to go in the baseball draft. Might not even go to college.
