Big Ten adds Oregon, Washington as newest members in blow to Pac-12

Realignment might kill the Oregon St wrestling program. Might kill wrestling for a few other school as well. Consider me surprised if the Pac10 additions USC/UCLA/UW/O to B10 add wrestling. If Oregon st joins the Mt West Conf money is going to be tight for athletics. If they join the B12 there’s a better chance of keeping it. Stanford’s program also back at the crossroads again. Cal Poly, Little Rock, & CBSU no longer have a conference. Not a great turn of events for the west programs who have been doing everything in their power to stay alive.

For as much excitement there has been with the addition of the PAC 12 teams from a football/basketball side of things, there seems to have been a lot of apprehension/anxiety for the wrestling programs being effected both directly and indirectly by the realignment. The B1G hasn’t mandated wrestling as a sport for participation in the conference. That is more than enough of an excuse to cut programs for several AD’s. Especially programs in precarious positions like Stanford, Little Rock, Cal Poly, Oregon State, etc.

Personally, I’m hopeful that the explosion of women’s wrestling gives level headed AD’s enough pause to refrain from axing wrestling programs as it would keep them in Title IX compliance and position them as a forward thinking university. Thus, giving them positive PR— which, as we all know, is at the heart of many universities highest priorities.

Fresno & Boise have only intramural wrestling. The others are part of the B12. Will the B12 continue to be the refuge for displaced programs?

Genuinely curious of the backstory to this. Genuinely ignorant.
The "Link" shows a headline that reads: "Fresno State Wrestling Under Investigation After Reports of Stripper at Team Party". It then quickly changes to a screen requesting membership before viewing the article. It doesn't even say if the stripper was male or female. Clickbait :)

Whoops, the link originally worked for me. Long story short, the administration wasn't very appreciative of mixing strippers with recruits. It took a huge effort to get Fresno State wrestling reinstated and then dumbassery killed it again.

Penn State will probably be blessed with a schedule of USC, UCLA, Oregon and Washington on the road for football in 2025. That's how the BIG rolls with us.

I'm good with that. They're all better destinations than Champaign or Lansing (etc.), places the athletes likely have never seen, and not a lot more total travel time.
