Can people now please get comfortable with Berge at 165 and quit saying Berge has to go down to 157? He looks great at 165 and definitely established that against AA Cam Amine. He is talented, experienced , proven and a winner. Rest assured Cael and Brady know better than many of the posters on this site who have been relentless about the need for Berge having to get down to 157. He's going to be a very competitive at this weight , a possible AA at 165 for PS and surprise a lot of people this year. Go Brady!!!

No, no, no!
Brady is going 157, Nick is bumping to 149 and Beau is cutting to 141.
Possibly Carter to 165, Brooks to 174, Dean to 184 and Beard in at 197.

It's all good.

BUT......at 157......the competition is less and Edsell is better at 165 than anyone currently at 157. We NEED him at 157 more than 165. Forget the fact that Brady looked chiseled at 165 and beat the #10 165 pounder tonight without giving up a TD. WE are the experts. WE know what is best. How can coaches and wrestlers simply ignore our zero experience expertise? It is as if they think they know more that we.......the fans do. Absurd Logic. :)

@82bordeaux can we get the Clint Eastwood... "get off of my lawn" gif?

I was (am?) a Berge to 57 is his best path for AA. Full feed Berge looks comfortable, adequately sized, and had no issues finishing last night against a stingy Amine. I might even say Berge seems a bit more active up a weight. That said, Amine AA’d because of a med forfeit to Marinelli last year and has been out of UM’s lineup for a month. Good win for sure but Berge is probably going to need a win over someone better than Amine to AA at 165.

Berge beating bull on Friday could literally raise the roof at carver

Saw that, what do you suppose that was all about?
I’m guessing his pride was hurt and got a little defensive in the moment. Seemed almost like he was trying to calm down the crowd like it was no big deal that he lost. It was out of character for Marinelli, who’s always seemed like a class act, but I enjoyed it!

Maybe some of the pressure will be off The Bull now that (it doesnt appear anyway) he wont be the 1 seed in Detroit?

Did not see that coming from him bet he regrets it.

I don’t buy the pressure may be off Marinelli now. The guy was a huge recruit (#2 p4p) who has had to listen for the last 5 seasons that he underperforms on the big stage at a historically bad rate. If anything, I think the pressure is worse and is getting to him. He knows this is his last chance. Watching younger guys catch and pass him has to be incredibly demoralizing. Him running his mouth at the end of the match last night tells me he’s feeling it.

With all that said, I still expect him to win Big10s, get ranked #1, FLO proclaim him the runaway favorite, and well you know the rest. Give me O’Toole vs the field.

I think O'Toole, Wick, Karchula, Whitlake,Hamiti and Griffin can beat Marinelli. Interesting to see how Berge does against him next week. It seems to me many of these 6-8 year seniors, like Marinelli , haven't done that well this year as everyone expected. Younger guys are passing them.

Based on how Berge looks and Kharchla's win last night, 165 is completely wide open with at least 12 guys capable of winning it all (and no clear favorite):

O'Toole, Wick, Kharchla, Griffin, Bull, Whitlake, Hamiti, Valencia, Berge, Ramirez, Amine, Wentzel

It's going to be a wild ride at nationals in this weight. It was last year, too, with basically the whole world rooting for Griffith to save Stanford wrestling...

Would Edsel at 157 be possible?

Hey one thing we know is Brady on an extreme cut isn't the same guy. You could see how it affected his strength and tank at 149.

Granted on paper or lineup looks stronger with him at 157, but I am good with him at 165, and this coming Friday will tell a lot. If he can keep it within 2 points with the Bull I will be convinced he can hang with the big strong 165s and AA+. I think Brady is really happy at 165, no worries of a cut, and he will not drop to 157. He looks great, I'm good with that, and I don't think another 5 points or so with another scheme matters.

I know Amine AA'ed through a MFF and has been out for some time but let's be real, this is Brady's second match back from outright retirement and he wasn't threatened to be taken down. That's kind of what makes Brady Brady, he has a sense and knows positioning to well. Also, nobody particularly "blows out" Amine, for example, O'Toole beat him 5-2 and Wick beat him 4-1 this year. He's just a difficult person to beat.

Even though beating Amine might not indicate Brady is ready to AA, beating Amine 2 months from the tournament is a VERY good sign for Brady especially as he showed no sign of gassing and was more active on his feet. Brady picked 165 for a reason, he's on a full feed now. His commitment to coaching has him in fantastic shape, I don't think he has 8 pounds to cut without losing some gas tank. His strength certainly doesn't seem to be lacking.

Put it this way, Brady looks way better now than he did last year at this time. 165 is deep but like I said, I don't think Brady and Cael cares who he wrestles, if Brady is healthy, comfortable and prepared, he will wrestle with anyone by late March.

My recollection is that we were all pretty excited about Brady’s performance and trajectory last year, right up until his injury(ies). Here’s his record leading up until Big 10s.
  • 5-2 DEC over #125 Matt Ortiz (Indiana)
  • 12-7 DEC over #39 Maxx Mayfield (Northwestern)
  • 12-4 MD over #56 Garrett Model (Wisconsin)
  • 3-1 DEC over #11 Will Lewan (Michigan)
  • 3-1 DEC over #55 Elijah Cleary (Ohio State)

I was talking about the first dual against Indiana/Northwestern (but that was more of an entire team thing) Brady also lost to Coleman and Lee at Big Tens (both good wrestlers obviously). Overall, he just looks more energetic on his feet this year.

I honestly thought Bull was signalling the opposite to the duhO$U crowd. I thought he was signalling to the crowd that they should cheer the effort from their yound emerging star and was acknowledging that he wrestled a great match.

I had no expectations upon the news he was coming back, except that he would be in a superior frame of mind. It would appear he stayed in wrestling shape and was able to hit the ground running. Great to see.

The challenge is mighty, but I think he is in a good place.

Wish I thought of it. Just reading though. Went and found it. It was Kale yeah. He posted it on HR. The post and replies are great
Yep, that post is what I was referencing (though I didn’t remember who, exactly, had posted it). I don’t recall you posting over there under this handle, or at least not recently, so thought maybe you were being (especially) clever in this example.

Berge weight situation might include the concussion injury. My youngest daughter high school sports career was stopped when she was a sophomore after suffering her 3rd major concussion. After many doctor and specialist visits I can assure you diet and hydration is very important in the recovery of the injury.
