posted this below but perhaps it deserves its own thread. Mods, kill it if you like...no worries, but seems to be important as the nation struggles to get back to normal

Upon returning to campus this week, at least five Alabama football players have tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), multiple sources have informed BamaOnLine.

Players returned to Tuscaloosa this week ahead of the start of voluntary workouts, and following testing, several members of the Crimson Tide tested positive for the virus. According to the SEC release in late May, Alabama and teams across the league have a plan, as immediate isolation, followed by contact tracing, of team members who are diagnosed is suggested.

The SEC announced voluntary in-person athletics activities may resume on its campuses, at the discretion of each university, beginning June 8, which includes Alabama. In regards to the return to in-person activities, athletic director Greg Byrne released the following statement:

“The health and safety of everyone, including our student-athletes, coaches, staff and fans has been, and will continue to be at the forefront as we prepare to return,” Byrne said in May. “We appreciate the leadership and guidance of the Southeastern Conference and its Return to Activity and Medical Guidance Task Force throughout this situation to best equip our campuses with educational materials and recommendations on best practices.

“Resumption of voluntary in-person activity is an important step in moving us towards the fall athletic season, which we are fully preparing for with a phased approach beginning June 8. In addition to our public health officials, we are fortunate to have an elite sports medicine staff here at Alabama, from our athletic trainers to our team doctors that we will continue to take direction from as we make decisions for a safe return.

“We look forward to welcoming back our student-athletes, coaches and staff to campus.”

Due to the impact of the novel COVID-19 pandemic, the SEC had suspended all athletics activities through May 31. June 8 will begin a transition period that will allow student-athletes to gradually adapt to full training and sports activity after this recent period of inactivity.

Under plans developed by each university and consistent with state and local health directives, certain activities will be permitted based on the ability to participate in controlled and safe environments, while also maintaining recommended social-distancing measures.
