As predicted, El Niño affecting 2016 temps

Just like a pot of water continues to give off warmth after you turn off the heat source, the tail end of an El Niño continues to release it's solar warmth as the Oceans are cooling down. It's very common to see the trailing effects of an El Niño last for months into the following year.

Through 06z the 28th, Jan is still the warmest on the NCEP record, but unless there is a jump in the last 3days, it will finish 2nd​
