....how PSU's best wins don't look as good now.....blah, blah, blah.... the last several days consistently? Today they used it as justification for believing Iowa is better team???? But while making these statements about PSU's best wins to-date (Wisconsin and Auburn) not looking as good to diminish PSU's record to-date, they don't breathe a word that Iowa's 2 supposed awesome wins (Iowa State and Indiana) look even worse now than PSU's wins??? Not only that but they don't mention that Iowa struggled against 1-3 Kent for 3 Quarters and never pulled away from 1-3 Colorado State???? At this point of the season, PSU's overall record is far more impressive than Iowa's so why aren't they talking about Iowa's wins over supposed top competition in Indiana and Iowa State now look like shit??? BTW, why is it that a top-ranked team like Oklahoma can look like shit against bad-to-mediocre teams like Tulane, Nebraska and WVU, but Auburn is all of a sudden a bad team despite being 3-1 and ranked in all polls (the same cannot be said about either Iowa State or Indiana)? The constant bashing of PSU and attempting to diminish them is really telling when you look at this completely unbalanced negative analysis of PSU's Record to-date with no similar analysis of Iowa's record to date when the diminishing of PSU is being used to promote Iowa as the better team???

While agree with other posters that the answer is just win baby, there comes a time when the talking stuff does matter, unfortunately. I happened to be home Tuesday and put on the BTN since there is nothing else on, expecting them to be talking some about the highest ranked team in the Big10. Most of the talk was about OSU and when they did mention PSU it was usually negative. They view OSUs loss to Oregon as more impressive than PSU wins. And I also agree that PSUs SOS seems to be scrutinized way more than any other team. No discussion about who Iowa, OSU, MD, etc. has beaten. They really love MD and Rutgers, now too. Probably because they are OSUs next opponents. When we play them they will be garbage wins.

If the playoff format started today it would be

1. Bammer
2. Arkansas and Uggs on Fox Net
3. Penn
4. Oregon

Secret chillin A : ND, Iowa

Is B1G Today the show with Wannstedt? Who cares? He has Pitt blood running in his veins and will always look to chop up Penn State any chance he gets.

There's a couple of PSU beat writers that are much worse than that.

Simple. Just keep rooting for Auburn to beat Bama, Georgia, Arkansas, and Mississippi. Just root for Wisconsin to lose the rest of their games (to make ND’s win over them look worthless). And root for that great Iowa team everyone is talking about to win every game the rest of the year except to us. Even if they beat us next week, and go undefeated, we would still get revenge in the Championship Game with a win that would actually mean something to the Committee.

Talking heads are gonna talk. It's their job to keep people watching. Tomorrow they may say the opposite.
This ^^^^

In pre-production meetings, they will:

a) generally pick a somewhat controversial take on something so that people are talking about it (e.g. this thread)

b) decide what they are going to disagree on amongst themselves (otherwise there is nothing to discuss).

So when you hear a sports talk person say something, the likelihood that they actually believe that is probably 50-50.

At least as it pertains to Iowa specifically, a head-to-head match-up looms...the same cannot be said, of course, about your other example, Oklahoma.

As a separate point, despite the fact that players are likely coached to avoid such things as media coverage, if the team has the same chip on their shoulder as the fans, that could be a good thing? Even if they did consume such media coverage, this type of thing seems that it would deter any purported complacency or headline reading.

We need to win every game to have a shot at the Final Four. Current rank doesn't matter and neither do the opinions of people buried on the BIG channel.

One way to shut them up is to win week after week. I like the fact that people paint us as underdogs. I think this motivates our players and coaches

Exactly. It's better than the players being told how great they are.
