Purdue Boilermakers

Last season, Purdue went 4-5 and placed 6th at the Big Ten Championships. The Boilermakers qualified 8 wrestlers into the NCAA Championships where they had 15.5 points for a tie for 26th. None of their wrestlers reached the podium with two making it to the round of 12 (Schroder and Penola).

This season, Purdue returns 9 out of their 10 starters from last season, including 7 of their 8 NCAA qualifiers. They have released their non-conference schedule which includes duals with Rider, Drexel, Cleveland State, Iowa State, Duke, Bellarmine and Northern Illinois (the latter 3 at the Boilmaker Duals). Purdue will also be going to Cliff Keen and Midlands.

The incoming recruiting class includes #74 Stoney Buell (MI), #90 Ben Vanadia (OH), #94 Dustin Norris (OH) {MatScouts rankings} and Matt Ramos transferring in from the Goophers.

Devin Schroder
(RSSR) [GR Catholic Central, MI]
Schroder gets a chance to end his collegiate career on the podium in his 6th year at Purdue. Schroder had a solid Big Ten tournament making it to the final and survived into the 2nd period against Spencer Lee before the inevitable tech fall. He got the 9 seed at the NCAA Championships and edged out 8 seed RayVon Foley (MSU) in the 2nd round before running into Lee again. Schroder lost to Eric Barnett (Wis) in the wrestlebacks in the round of 12. For the season, he went 11-6 (RPI .611).

Filius will be looking to qualify for his 3rd in NCAA tournament. He went 9-9 (RPI .565) and placed 5th at the Big Ten Championships. Filius went 2-2 at the NCAA Championships from the 18 seed.

149
Alec White
(RSJR) [New Palestine, IN]
Trey Kruse (FR) [Stillwater, MN]
White went 0-3 last season before getting injured backing up Griffin Parriott. Another option could be Trey Kruse who went 2-5 as a true freshman last season. Outgoing senior Parriott went 8-4 and qualified for his 3rd NCAA tournament (1-2 from the 15 seed) after placing 7th at the Big Ten Championships.

157
Kendall Coleman
(RSSO) [Mt. Carmel, IL]
Coleman went 12-4 (RPI .610) last season and qualified for this second NCAA tournament after placing 5th at the Big Ten Championship. Coleman went 1-2 at the NCAA Championships from the 9 seed.

165
Gerrit Nijenhuis
(FR) [Canon-McMillan, PA]
Nijenhuis had a solid true freshman season going 11-7 (RPI .567) and placing 5th at the Big Ten Championships. He went 2-2 from the 19 seed at the NCAA Championships.

Lyon will be looking to qualify for the NCAA Championships a 4th time in his 5th year as a starter at Purdue. Last season he went 9-8 (.547) and qualified for the NCAA Championships after placing 7th. He went 2-2 from the 16 seed at the NCAAs.

197
Thomas Penola
(RSSO) [Zionsville, IN]
Penola is coming off a solid season where he went 13-6 (RPI .584) and placed 7th at the Big Ten Championships. He made it to the Round of 12 from the 19 seed at NCAAs.

Heavy
Dorian Keys
(FR) [Brownsburg, IN]
Keys went 2-6 and missed the NCAA tournament last season.

Purdue has the distinction of having the creepiest mascot in Division 1 with Purdue Pete edging out OSU's Pistol Pete (there's a Peter joke here somewhere...) Anyway, here's the link.

Thanks for the preview, one note on Kendall Coleman is that while he technically went 1-2 at NCAAs he had to injury default and medical forefit for his two losses. Kid is super tough and if healthy should be on the podium this year.
