2020-21 Sixers Thread

Unfortunately this time of the year there is hardly any games with full rosters on both sides due to load management and injury issues. I am very hopeful the sixers get the 1 seed and they have a real good shot as they control the tie breaker over the nets and the bucks lost to the Rockets last night about does them in.

Remaining schedule is very favorable as the sixer only have 1 playoff team remaining on the schedule after the Hawks tonight with Miami right near the seasons end. They have Orlando, Houston and Chicago for a couple games. While the nets have Portland tonight followed by a back to back AT Milwaukee. Hopefully the Bucks can win at least 1 and put the sixers in a tie then its just win out.

Sixers should have coasted to a victory agains the Spurs. Alas, they didn't put them away, the Spurs got hot in the 4th qtr, and the Sixers took (and missed) some questionable shots. They had the ball at the end of a tie game, and JoJo shot a fade away (not exactly the best option) for the win at the buzzer. It missed, so we're going OT. smh

crazy OT. Sixers had a made 3 taken off the board for a shot clock violation. JoJo was called for a defensive foul (his 5th) which was challenged, and was overturned. The Spurs challenged an offensive charge call but it was upheld. JoJo was called for a travel, but TV replay showed it was incorrect (the Sixers didn't have a challenge to use, so it stood). The Sixers kept getting the lead, and then getting tied up. So the game is tied with 19.1 sec, and the Sixers have the ball. Tobias feeds JoJo, he drives in and then shoots a jumper, and Simmons taps in the miss just before the buzzer (and of course, it's going to replay, but it looks good on TV replay). Call (that the tap was before the buzzer) is upheld, and the Sixers win 113-111.

Should not have been this difficult.

Simmons had a bad game but wound up winning it for them on that final tap in. Crazy stuff. Credit to San Antonio for never quitting and taking it to the Sixers physically.

An eye-opening reminder of greatness:
Thanks for posting; amazing to see his speed at that size.

Wilt was quite a track and field athlete according to this link:

Before hitting the hardwood, Chamberlain’s sport of choice was actually track and field. Chamberlain was a well-rounded athlete in the discipline; his personal best in the high jump was six feet six inches, he threw 55 feet in shot put, he ran the 440 in 49 seconds, and he could do a 22-foot long jump.

Wilt might have been a good decathlete, though I think the pole vault would have been an adventure.

What the Sixers need to do now is to stay healthy. Once Simmons returned the play went up a notch, notwithstanding some blown leads late in games, mostly by the bench or sloppy defense after they went up by 15-20. On any given night Harris, Curry, or even Korkmaz can burn you. Juju is passing better and Simmons is getting the ball to alternate scorers and playing great defense. Getting the ball down low to the big man really places pressure on opposing defenses. If they can defend the 3 against good teams they can win. Thybulle comes up with incredible steals and even Maxey when he plays turns it up to a different speed. He will be fun to watch develop over the next few years. This team is really fun to watch now with all this talent. And Doc is really coaching well too- what a difference.

Bucks beat the Nets and Sixers move to 1.5 games up in first (2 games with the tie breaker). I hope the standings stay this way. I would love to see 7 games of these two with the winner having to come to Philly for the Eastern conference championship hopefully with restrictions lifted in the Corestates...err...First union...uhhh...Wells Fargo center! The one seed could be much more important than originally though when the season started now.

Also with their win tonight, the Bucks also own the tiebreaker over the Nets if it comes to that. I tell ya what, if Harden isn't 100% this could be a very interesting playoff run for the mighty Nets.

This isn’t true for the east. The 2 and 3 seeds can’t both advance, both have championship aspirations. Feel the gift of the 1 seed (Atlanta or NYK round 2)

I just wish this team was a little more loose and had fun with each other...

Nets lose again. This time to the Mav’s. This pushes the Sixers even closer to the 1 seed. I think this means they only need 3 wins in their final 7 games to lock up the 1 seed.

Sixers playing the Pelicans, and it's not for the feint of heart. The Sixers lead 70-54 at the half. They seemed to have the game in hand, and could coast home. Not so fast, the Pelicans outscored the Sixers 37-18 in the 3rd quarter, so it's 91-88, Pelicans to start the 4th qtr.

Zion Williams and Steven Adams are out for the Pelicans.

Sixers went on an 8-0 run after the starters returned. After that, it got a little sloppy, but the Sixers had the ball and a 2-point lead with @ 19 sec to go. After a Sixers timeout, Tobias was double teamed and he didn't get the ball over half court in time, so a turnover with 10.7 sec left. And the Pelicans turned it over near the buzzer, so the Sixers hold on to win 109-107.

Would have been an ugly loss had the Sixers given away their big 1st half lead.

When the game ended I switched over to watch the Flyers put in an empty net goal to beat Washington, and then to the Phillies who were still in the 6th inning and beat Atlanta 12-2. It should be free cheesesteaks for everyone in Philly tomorrow.
Monday was the first day that the Phillies, Sixers and Flyers all won on the same day since April 11, 2012 and within a week they do it again!
