Liverpool moved 22 points clear at the top of the Premier League with a 4-0 win over Southampton at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

After an opening half that saw the visitors largely keep the Reds at arm’s length and produce a series of good chances themselves, the hosts edged ahead two minutes into the second half courtesy of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s low finish.

Roberto Firmino, who teed up the first goal, then created a second for Jordan Henderson, the captain sweetly side-footing in, and Mohamed Salah rounded off the scoring with a cute dink from the skipper’s assist and a 90th-minute conversion at close range.

Jürgen Klopp’s team therefore matched the second-longest unbeaten run in English top-flight history – 42 games – and equalled a Premier League record with their 20th consecutive home victory in the competition.

22 - Liverpool will end today 22 points clear of second-placed Manchester City in the Premier League table; this is the biggest lead any league-leader has ever had at the end of a day in English top-flight history. Gap. At least for a couple of hours!!

Jürgen Klopp receives latest Premier League Manager of the Month award

Jürgen Klopp was presented with his fifth Premier League Manager of the Month award of the season on Friday.

The Liverpool boss was confirmed as the winner for January last week, having guided his team to five consecutive victories over the course of the month.

Sheffield United, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Ham United were beaten with just a single goal conceded.

In claiming the accolade, Klopp set a new record for the most Manager of the Month awards in a single season. It is his eighth in total since joining the Reds.

Tottenham tie it at 1-1 in the 27th minute. Toby Alderweireld with the goal. Good for him because it was his own goal that put Spurs behind early.
