2018-19 Sixers Thread

Bolden played a nice game against Charlotte last night. How long until Butter suits up for the 76ers?

Guys like Bolden are going to factor into the success or failure of this trade too. The team will need to replace Saric with someone that can hold his own.

If Butler is all in to play for the Sixers, this deal is a good one for them. He can score, and he can create his own shot. The Sixers' lack of a go-to guy in the half court offense was what killed them in crunch time during last season's playoffs. Butler solves THAT problem.

Not a Sixers fan but seems like a relatively low price for Butler. Definitely improves them

If the Sixers can somehow trade Fultz, they will be able to sign a second max contract free agent this Summer.

Why would trading Fultz make a difference? There are other contracts that come off the books too.

There are already 2-3 articles that have come out on this topic in the past several hours. They need Fultz's contract, and the other logical expiring contracts off the books. Honestly. I'm probably the worst person who can best describe the numbers.

Anyone watching the Sixers tonight? Fultz's free throw shot is wildly broken again. The strange jerky motion is back, plus he is now jumping to the point where his feet leave the ground. Furkon K getting some PT and nailing some nice threes.

Noticed this last game. It was brutal! Back to the way it was to start last year.

He’s either hurt again or just completely shot in the head.

Either way, with the Butler trade they need to move on from him. Shamet is more than capable of taking his minutes.

I said that about Fultz a few posts back. His shot is horrible as is his free throws. I like what Korkmaz is doing the last 2 games. Philly declined his option a few days back. If he keeps playing the way he has that's a big plus other than JJ we really lack a 3 shooter. Forget about Fultz or Simmons making a 3.

The ability to stop people in the half court was a major problem too. They could not keep the Celts guards from penetrating. Butler helps in that regard as well.

Sixers in play for Carmelo?? This has to be a joke right??

Yes, there would appear to be talks going on between the Cavs and Sixers for Korver. A local online site that overs the Sixers says one of their inside sources has denied interest in Carmelo. Lets hope so. More viable might be a trade for Jeff Green, Markieff Morris or Kelly Oubre Jr of the Wizards. They are being shopped and the Sixers might be in the mix.

Furkan K and Shamet looked good last night. The Sixers still need to find a stretch four player to get this to the next level.

Wait, you mean all the breathless posts on how great he was going to be this year aren’t true?

I think everyone was just hoping for the best for the young man. By accounts he's a decent person, albeit maybe immature, and I would not be surprised one day to find out that he has some sort of depression or other psychological issue. Was listening to one of the talking heads on the radio this morning, and he said Fultz is all but untradable at this point. It certainly appears he will be pulled from his starting role tomorrow night. It was literally painful to watch him last night and seeing him passing on shots and his horrid free throws.

Everyone's bashing Fultz (for good reason) but the only thing he's missing is a shot.. other than that he's playing pretty well. I read that he has nerve damage that might be affecting his shot.

He's still young and has a bright future. I think he needs to be sent to a specialist of some sort or down to the G League until he figures it out. Currently he has all the resources at his disposal. Redick, Simmons, now Butler, etc.

I'm rooting for him and wont give up hope yet.

Lets not forget he is only 20 YO. He needs some time to mature and grow as a player and person ...

When the videos of his "improved" shot came out before the season, I'd posted that I thought his shot still looked like crap and was not holding out hope that he would start to show his draft pedigree. Got blasted as a negative nellie.

Now I see there's a whole lotta negative nellies here, but gotta say my hopes for Fultz have actually gone up. His defense has improved by leaps and bounds but more importantly his attitude/aggressiveness has improved as well. If he can maintain that even while his shot is sh*t, I have confidance that he'll be able to overcome whatever it is that he's dealing with.

I agree here. And I think getting Butler will help Fultz in the long term. He won't need to shoot or be that third star to win games. He can just play his roll of handling the ball, distributing the ball, playing defense and rebounding. His shot will come if he can get out of his own head. Not being the focus of reporters for a while can only help. Let's hope Butler helps this team go on a nice winning streak and the focus can be on Butler and the winning instead of Fultz's shot.

Fultz just retweeted his own tweet from last year about not being able to trust anyone.

Sure, give fultz some (a lot) of benefit of the doubt, but he has zero room to complain or whine. He’s not the player he was two years ago. That’s on him. If you’re not healthy, don’t play. Figure it out. You can’t be an NBA player and not be able to shoot a free throw.

I’m not throwing the baby out with the bath water. But he’s not an nba player right now. Go get healthy and figure it out. I have to think he can do that. If he can’t, then cut bait. He’s taking up 10 mil in cap room. That’s money that can be used on a player contributing double to triple what he can bring right now. I’d rather have McConnell playing right now if not for the upside potential of fultz once he’s healthy.

As for the starting lineup, I bet fultz got benched. Starting lineup tonight should be redick, Butler, Simmons, chandler, embiid.

Also, if sixers can bring in korver, that’d be huge. Korkmaz for korver.

I really don't get the love for Korver. He's 37 now. He's great in the locker room and nobody works harder (Butler works his ass off too), but he's a one-trick pony these days, a liability on defense.

Yesterday Brand all but said that was going to happen. Even Brown eluded to it on Monday.

Why would you start Reddick now? With Butler in place of RoCo, the starting lineup has plenty of firepower. I’d use Reddick as an upgrade over Belinelli’s role last year. Otherwise, there isn’t much pure offense on the bench.

Almost every article I've read, say the Sixers will go with Reddick, or possibly even Shament. Most of the articles are backed up with statistics on when Simmons and Fultz are on the floor together, its not working out.

That's because with RoCo too, there wasn't enough offensive creativity. With Butler, that changes. I'd like to see what happens.

I'd be okay with Shamet starting though. I just like Reddick off the bench. If he starts, there isn't much reliable scoring to bring in when the team needs a spark.

New lineup announced within the past hour:

Ben Simmons
JJ Redick
Jimmy Butler
Wilson Chandler
Joel Embiid

Korver is a player that allows you to just have a redick on the floor at all times. They are virtually the same player. Veteran presence. Finals experience. He’s better than belinelli , that’s for sure.

Now is the time to try out different lineups. Not much firepower on the bench though. We'll see if this works or not.

This is the right move. Totally supportive. Fultz can back up Simmons if that’s how it’s going to play out. Redick is playing too well right now to not maximize what he’s doing.

The other thing I like about this move is that it represents a significant upgrade over last years starting 5. Saric and Covington replaced by butler and chandler is an upgrade.

I seen a stat during a recent game and Shamet had almost identical numbers so far to what Belinelli had last year. If he can continue to improve, he can really help this team out off the bench like Marco (Polo) did last year. He’s been a really pleasant surprise this year.

Stats are one thing. Belinelli made some HUGE shots in games when it was exactly what we needed. Shamet isn't on the floor for those yet. Maybe by the end of the season he will be. We'll see.

100% true...I really think this team makes similar moves to last year and grabs a player or two after buyouts and strengthens the bench. I think they look really different in March. Some talk of Trevor Ariza once he’s bought out in Phoenix. Would fit the defensive theme they seem to be building.

Muscala giving them quality minutes in Miami the other night as well. Wouldn’t count on that every night but still nice to see. I would just really like Brown to get a consistent lineup together now that you have a starting 5 that shouldn’t change for the rest of the season. Now get some consistent minutes out of your bench.
