1923 was the last time the DOW had this many straight losing weeks. We literally went from a strong recovery out of the Democrat governor extended COVID shutdowns to 1970s/early1980s stagflation to the new great depression in less than a year and a half.

In fairness, it is just the Dow, which is not exactly a super serious benchmark. It's only down 8.7% over the last year, and that's coming off an overly inflated market at the time. Eyeballing the 3-year chart, it looks like it is up 30% over that time period, which is not spectacular, but neither is it the doomsday scenario.

I certainly don't view market performance as DOW performance but it is what the media generally focuses on. And while DOW performance YTD is not great depression, the NASDAQ has taken it quite hard on the chin.

I also wouldn't arbitrarily choose the 3-yr chart as the measurement for anything considering there is a very distinct inflection point within the past year and the 1st 2 years of the 3-year chart is clearly bullish and the last 6 months or so have been extremely bearish. To me, it is the sharpness of the inflection point that is the measure of change and impact. Similar to the ability of an athlete to be sudden or have change of direction. Fed policy is a slow turn of the ship with large lags. Government policy is that which produces sharp inflection points and is immediate.
