Among the most prominent and enduring character flaws that Donald Trump displays on a regular basis are his obsessions with vengeance and jealousy. And every now and then he unleashes both in a flurry of fiery rage, usually triggered by some bad news that burns at his gargantuan, but fragile, ego.

This was a full-on vindication for McCabe whose record has now been expunged of the derogatory facets of Trump's woefully wrongful termination. Naturally, that aroused Trump's hyper-sensitive snowflake feedback mechanism so much so that he rushed to have his Twitter ban defying spokes-shill and proxy tweeter, Liz Harrington, fire off a manic missive to try to re-distort history. What was terrible was that Trump abused the power of the presidency to punish McCabe when he had done nothing to warrant it. It was a purely political assault by Trump because McCabe was doing his job as a law enforcement professional, which a criminal like Trump couldn't abide.
Notice that Trump also couldn't stick to one topic. So he drifted off into a well-worn rant about Hillary Clinton that had been completely debunked long ago. Clinton never donated a dime to the campaign of Jill McCabe. There was no Clinton investigation going on at the time. So of course, McCabe wasn't in charge of it. But Trump was just getting started on his schizoid wild ride. He continued with a sharp turn into Hunter Biden territory, whining that...
Really? First of all, while Biden's artwork was overvalued in much the same way that any celebrity collectible would be, it never sold for $500,000. But more to the point, the notion of Trump starting a career in art is too far removed from reality for even an SNL sketch. Never mind that he has already demonstrated his ability to defraud suckers out of their money by getting them to contribute to his bogus campaign, or stay in his bedbug infested hotels, or buy his red hats that mark them as idiots.
What's more, Trump saying that he "always felt I have a talent" for art is so very Trump. This is the same guy with the delusional self-image of a “very stable genius” who knows more about war than generals, and more about economics than economists, and more about healthcare and epidemics than doctors, and in short, more about everything than anyone, as revealed in the following video:

After news of travel restrictions to be eased, border shops ready to welcome back Mexican customers

While Canadian and Mexican visitors have been allowed to enter the U.S. for purposes deemed essential by the government, only in the coming weeks will fully vaccinated travelers be allowed to enter via land for shopping and other “non-essential” purposes, the Biden administration announced this week.
The announcement comes at great relief to small business owners along the southern border region, who have “long-relied on foot traffic from Mexican consumers to stay afloat,” El Paso Matters’ René Kladzyk reports. Restrictions have already come at a great cost to the region’s economy. The report said that more than 45 small businesses in the downtown El Paso area have closed.

University of Texas at El Paso professor of economics Tom Fullerton told El Paso Matters that the total economic losses stemming from the restrictions could total hundreds of millions of dollars. As noted yesterday, when the previous administration shut down one border crossing over the 2018 Thanksgiving weekend in its attempt to block asylum-seekers, local businesses lost an estimated $5.3 million.
“At Simple Mobile, a cell phone store on El Paso Street near the international bridge, Mexican consumers made up 80% of sales, according to shop owner Miguel Lara,” El Paso Matters reported. Lara seemed to be in disbelief about whether the Biden administration’s announcement this week was real. “It’s been really hard,” he told El Paso Matters. “It’s been hard for a year and a half.”
Rep. Veronica Escobar, who has been a champion for immigrant and Latino families while serving in the House, agrees. “She said she has been pushing on the White House ‘to get this done,’” Bailey Schulz and Lauren Villagran report in El Paso Times.
“For too long, El Paso and all border communities have really suffered,” Escobar said in the report. “Our economy has suffered. Our families have suffered. People have been separated from their loved ones. Our Downtown businesses have really struggled; many have closed. So it’s long past time.” She said the region was “eager to get back to normal. And normal means cross-border movement.” Del Rio official Blanca Larson told the Associated Press that “[a]long the border, we’re like more of one community than two different communities.” There, “Mexican visitors account for about 65% of retail sales,” the report said.
Like also noted yesterday, the upcoming changes don’t affect the status of Title 42, an unsound policy implemented by the prior administration that’s used that pandemic as an excuse to quickly deport asylum-seekers in violation of their rights. Even as officials like Dr. Anthony Fauci have cast doubt on its continued use, the Biden administration has kept that policy in place.

Congress will soon have oversight over U.S. Olympic leadership. Top gymnasts want a factory reset

Top U.S. Gymnasts Simone Biles, Aly Raisman, McKayla Maroney, and Maggie Nichols asked Congress to replace the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) board in a letter obtained Wednesday by The Wall Street Journal. “We make this request after years of patience, deliberation, and unrequited commitment to learn from our suffering and make amateur sports safe for future generations,” the letter said. The request noted the board’s lack of concern for the hundreds of gymnasts victimized at the hands of former USA Gymnastics and Michigan State University doctor Larry Nassar.
Addressed to Sen. Richard Blumenthal and Sen. Jerry Moran, the letter called on Congress to pass a joint resolution Nov. 1 to dissolve the USOPC board under the landmark Empowering Olympians and Paralympians and Amateur Athlete Act of 2020 and replace them with credible leadership. Co-authored by Blumenthal and Moran, the law would allow Congress to dissolve committee members and hold sports officials accountable for protecting athletes, the Orange County Register reported.

“We believe it is time for Congress to exercise its authority over the organization it created by replacing the entire USOPC board with leadership willing and able to do what should have been done long ago: Responsibly investigate the systemic problem of sexual abuse within Olympic organizations — including the USOPC—and all efforts to conceal it,” the four women, all survivors Nassar’s sexual abuse, wrote in the letter.
They claimed that the U.S. Olympic Committee had known about Nassar’s sexual assault allegations since 2015 but “took no investigative action.” According to the letter in June 2015, Nichols became the first national team member to report abuse allegations against Nassar; however, no investigation was called until February 2018.
“Since being aware of Nassar’s abuse, the USOPC’s top priority has been to hide culpability and avoid accountability,” the four women wrote in the letter. “We believe the Board’s past actions demonstrate an unwillingness to confront the endemic problems with abuse that athletes like us have faced and a continued refusal to pursue true and necessary reform of the broken Olympic system,” the letter said.
It also rightfully noted that until the “ecosystem” that gave shelter to someone like Nassar “still exists,” athletes will remain at risk of sexual abuse.
The letter follows ongoing calls to prosecute two former FBI agents who meddled in cases filed against Nassar. After first refusing to pursue charges, the Justice Department announced Oct. 5 that it would review its decision based on new information.
“They allowed a child molester to go free for more than a year, and this inaction directly allowed Nassar’s abuse to continue,” McKayla Maroney told the Senate Judiciary Committee tear-jerking testimony on Sept. 15. “After telling my entire story of abuse to the FBI in the summer of 2015, not only did the FBI not report my abuse, but when they eventually documented my report 17 months later, they made entirely false claims about what I said,” Maroney continued.
While Nassar was found guilty and sentenced in 2018, reports indicated two FBI officials investigating the abuse allegations against Nassar violated the agency’s policies by making false statements and failing to properly document complaints by the accusers. As a result, Nassar was able to abuse numerous other athletes in his care.
“We’re grateful to these athletes for their continued demand for justice and accountability – a goal we share,” Blumenthal and Moran said in a joint statement in response to the letter. “We look forward to continuing our work together to ensure that USOPC is held responsible for past failures.
“Our bill gave Congress the power to dissolve USOPC and individual sports’ governing bodies in response to clear evidence that these institutions were not always capable of holding themselves accountable. This oversight mechanism requires that Congress develop procedures to appoint a new board before dissolving the old one, and must be approved by the House and Senate before being signed by the President.”
In a statement to Reuters, the USOPC defended its handling of the case and said it was “fully committed to addressing sexual abuse at every level of sport.”
“The letter addressed to Congress underscores their concern, and we recognize the bravery of the athlete survivors who continue to bring these issues forward,” the USOPC said. “The letter references issues that USOPC has been addressing for more than two years—and the work we continue to do every day.”
