Worst way to lose a wrestling match?

One that has to rank right up there with the worst is a teammate of mine who literally shat himself off the mat. He had something going on before the meet, and when he got tossed in a headlock midway through his match, well . . . a brown spot grew and grew, until he just gave up, pinned himself...

"DT will listen to Iowa's pitch"

Even better: Takes all of his recruits with him, leaving the cupboard bare. Just imagine the short-memory outrage over that.

"DT will listen to Iowa's pitch"

Brands doesn’t worry about what the other guy is doing. He is just going to “wrestle his own match”.

I was so depressed when they broke up.

One of the things I enjoy seeing in wrestling is how much the trainers and support staff are invested in the team and athletes. Love seeing them just as passionate and vocal as wrestling moms when the wrestlers are on the mat. I don’t see that nearly as much in the bigger sports.

Does Tom Brands make his wrestlers better?

Hey, @Ski . . . I see a mod tagged your post above with a warning that “Homophobic posts are not tolerated”. I suppose they should not be, but did you actually have knowledge while making that post that every mod on this site is male? And who gets to decide whether your intent in that obvious...

    Whiniest Big 10 Coach

However, I think we have some B1G bias built into this, too. Let’s not forget Zeke Jones. His matside whining makes me want to change the channel like no other. EDIT: And of course, I have “not paying attention bias”. Just now looked at the thread title a little more carefully, lol. Ryan it is.

Does Tom Brands make his wrestlers better?

Yeah, not much time for shenanigans this season, I’m afraid. But rest assured, I have not matured.

    Shots fired by crybaby Manning

This is such a weird take — I don’t even follow HS wrestling, at all. Not PA, not any state. You’re trying way too hard on this one. Starocci deserved an at-large based on his regular season performance, and Manning was being irrational. That’s kind of the beginning and the end of the story...

Does Tom Brands make his wrestlers better?

I feel like this must have been used in either a Seinfeld or Curb Your Enthusiasm bit. Character 1: I’m not disgruntled! To the contrary, I’m actually gruntled. Totally gruntled . . . love to be gruntled. Character 2: It’s certainly good to be gruntled. My uncle was gruntled. Never had a...

That simply is not true. Talk about hyperbole. I explained above exactly why I think it is ok, and it has nothing to do with bias associated with existing rules. I’m not the only one of that opinion. Again, your philosophy on this is very narrow-minded. We want the best at Nationals in their...

    Shots fired by crybaby Manning

I’ve always had the opinion that the “wild card” / “at-large” concept exists specifically for the purpose of ensuring that anomalies do not unfairly punish deserving wrestlers, whether the anomaly be a last-minute injury or some fluky loss in a qualification tournament. Of course, there must...

Ha, that reminds me of this all-time fav: It almost looks like they could be the same guy.

    Mitchell Mesenbrink's Pace

I was thinking Brooks-Amine Part II all over again. But I also felt like Hamiti was going to regret how much he put into that first period, too, and that Mesenbrink would require a much narrower window to recover and reassert himself.

I’m going to make a rare exception here and agree with smalls. If injured wrestlers hide the severity of their injuries by not actually wrestling in conference tournaments, how the heck are Iowa Hawkeye wrestlers going to be able to make informed bets on outcomes at NCAAs? This is yet another...

You can try your best with this act, but you’re not fooling many. The thing is, every time you get personal with johnstown, you lose. Your insecurities get the best of you, and you cross lines that no one can support. I know you take pride in building yourself up to be some sort of ‘lone wolf’...

Does Tom Brands make his wrestlers better?

I haven’t read though that thread, yet, but I don’t feel like I need to. I’m going to disagree with you here. The refugee thread is a service We provide for the unfortunate. By taking in the downtrodden (but reasonable) posters, it also advances our mission to be the most powerful wrestling...
