    Lloyd had a lot of help in close games in that era, I don’t care what anyone says. Holding not called, bad spots, phantom pass interference (99), receiver called out who was clearly in (02), adding time (05), you name it. In a game of inches these calls make a difference.

    There was absolutely a big ten ref bias against Joe and PSU, hence the instituting of replay in the big ten. Also, give Joe some credit for Rip’s 3-0 record against Woody as the number 1 assistant. 11-14 is very competitive especially considering Success with Honor.

    Russ Rose retires

    Apples and oranges. Joe helped Penn State (with the the help of a lot of people) become a national brand. His influence went far beyond the football field. Russ would be the first to tell you that. He was a huge Paterno fan. Nonetheless Rose is an all time legend in his sport.
