We had a defensive TD called back and a blatant late hit missed that would have likely netted us 3 points. Horrendous game in which we were dominated on the lines, but if anything, with better officiating, we may have snuck out of there with a win.
He’s not winning 9 or 10 this year and he had a losing record last year. Firing him with his buyout is a total non-starter, but there are some glaring issues that he seems incapable of fixing. His seat should be getting hotter.
Would be 2 bad years in a row. And more concerning, the same issues have plagued his team every season, even in great years.
That said, there’s no way he’s getting fired.
So instead he blames the weather for the abysmal running game? When Illinois ran for over 300 and when we haven’t been able to run it all season. I guess it doesn’t really matter if he has a different attitude inside the locker room, but I worry that part of the reason we have such a soft team...
Don’t necessarily disagree about the RB rotation, but Lee got hurt early in the game and I don’t believe came back. Lovett completely whiffed on a block that led to a sack and I don’t think he came back after that. Ford was hurt vs. Iowa so maybe he wasn’t available. Think the coaches were...
Takes some serious chutzpah to cite Clifford being limited when you made the decision to run him out there. And a wet day? Was Illinois playing on a dry field?
Yes, the injury to Cliff was unfortunate. We are hardly the only team that deals with injuries. Very few of them manage to lose at home as 24 point favorites.
I think many teams could overcome injuries to a starting DT and QB against a 2-5 team that gained 94 total yards the week before. The injuries have been unfortunate, but they’re not an acceptable excuse for today
A 28 point loss to OSU would be a decent outcome tbh. Illinois ran for 350+ on us with one of the worst QBs at a P5 program. They had just 94 total yards last week. OSU has a better run game and the ability to pass
Totally agree. We tried to force the run on the first few series and no designed Clifford runs and no Clifford scrambles the entire game. The staff clearly was hoping to walk away with a win without having to use Clifford much at all. So why not just start Roberson? If it’s a disaster you can...
Perhaps. But I'm trying to be as objective as I can.
It is true that occasionally teams have guys go down on D to buy some time. And I can see how the Brisker and AK injuries sort of looked like that at the time (we, of course, know that Brisker has been dealing with an issue all season and...
That seems to settle it right there. How can you argue you were justified in booing injuries because we were using it to slow down momentum when the boos came out on the 5th play of the game after Iowa had just lost a yard? At that point there was no pattern of injuries and it did not occur...
Nah, the Miami team that went into Pitt undefeated in late November a few years ago and lost was worse.
But this Iowa team certainly did not look impressive. I think they could easily lose to Nebraska and certainly will have a very hard time scoring on Wisconsin. Assuming they do make it into...
God, Iowa fans are so lame. Injuries are part of football, so it is what it is. But to pretend as though you had more than a remote chance to win before Clifford went down? Ridiculous. Your defense was crap.
And yes, please enlighten us about booing injured players
